And why is it that HyperDia does not show the direct route from Kyoto to Osaka Airport? It gives me 3 options, and they all involve switching to a bus after the train. ... If you had followed the directions for Osaka Airport, you most certainly would have missed your flight. |
They're different?! Okay, Kansai it is. Thanks for letting me know, I surely would have missed my flight had I not known this.

The official name of Itami (ITM) is Osaka International Airport. KIX does not have Osaka in either its unofficial or official name.
|
Unfortunately, the airlines exacerbate this problem by continuing to refer to KIX as "Osaka."

Is it IATA's fault? Osaka city airport code OSA includes ITM, KIX, and UKB
There are train stations nearby called Itami, so that won't get you to the airport, although close. For Tokyo, the airport train stops use Haneda in the name. There is fortunately not any Haneda train station in the adjacent neighborhood. However, there is an expressway exit called Haneda, which is not for the airport. In Osaka the expressway exit also uses Osaka Airport. In Tokyo it is Airport West or Airport Center off the expressways. |
This is like how JFK, LGA, and EWR are all New York airports...

I have priority select (via Chase), but the KAL at KIX is a pain.
Limited to two guests, unlike other PP lounges. I went with my party of 6 and only 3 of us could enter. Only for departing passengers, even though it is landside and accessible for arriving as well. Maybe not even departing domestic... They had a "FULL" sign up when I went there the second time (means only KAL business class, not contracted cards). It was not full though and they would have let me in if I had been departing. Food is just cup ramen, onigiri and some packaged bread. Wine is mediocre. Good points are the beer machine and a decent 17yr old blended whiskey. |

I've been there once or twice, it's a very simple setup and not much food/drink options. I prefer JL's Sakura Lounge instead. :D

Two of us are flying out of KIX on CI153 (2pm departure) in J (DL award ticket). The purpose of this post is equally as much to ask for current guidance on "which lounge(s) should we go to if we have time", as well as simply to catalog them for OCD purposes :o :D
Between the CI and Skyteam web sites it seems the choices are the KAL landside lounge, KIX Airport airside lounge, or JAL Sakura lounge all at T1 where the flight operates from. The DL web site also mentions a KE lounge in "North Wing by Gate 11" -- but all references to KE lounges I can find only mention the one that is landside. Is this maybe a mistaken reference to the Asuka Lounge which also seems to be at North Wing, Gate 11? (or maybe there's both?) FWIW I also have PP but that only seems to get access to the KE landside lounge as noted above. |

No, it's because the monorail stop at Itami is called Osaka Airport in Japanese. By the same logic Haneda should be "Tokyo Airport". Both these legacy airports have the official names of Tokyo/Osaka International Airport.

Further to my previous post, we're currently at the Sakura lounge near gate 30, will probably just stay put for logistical reasons.
It's pretty nice, bright and open with large windows offering a view of the apron. Reasonable food spread and decent beverage variety, including a self-serve bar although nothing to get excited about. They do have separate beer machines with Suntory, Asahi, and Kirin :) Separate quiet area, non-dining area, and glass-walled smoking room. Lots of power outlets. 4/5 would lounge again. |

I ignored the sign and went to the reception. The lounge wasn't full and I was on a KAL flight in Y, so other potential J passengers on that flight might show up. I was not allowed in. Shame on them. Priority Pass and Diners Club should just remove those lounges from their lounge lists. |
