soon expiring passport?

Hi,
Has anyone had an experience with entering Japan on stand-by tickets with a passport soon expiring?

The immigration website says it will be ok, as long as the passport is valid upon entry. I'm just worried about the standby issue. The passport will expire 3 days after we plan to leave (flights are open).

Thanks!!

Why would you do that if you're flying standby. What will you do if you don't clear?

Apply for a new passport, presumably.

My understanding is that you may run into a problem at the check-in counter (airline refusing to board you) rather than Japanese immigration. ??

I think OP would be OK but I would be more inclined to get a new passport before leaving the US or wherever...

Unusually, Japan does not have a passport validity requirement, but you'll still want to make sure your return flight out of Japan is before expiry.

We just went last month on NH with my child's passport expiring ~1 week after the return date. No questions asked whatsoever. But the OP would be screwed if she can't clear standby.

Used to be easy to do at an overseas US Embassy. Now it's more of a pain and you can only get a temporary emergency passport.
