That's much easier than Shibuya, unless you get out at New South Exit. But then you have to be prepared to hunt for a cab, which is pretty easy. Walk one short block straight ahead to Meiji dori.
A nice route from there to Midtown is 246 to Omotesando and then right, you then pass the stunning Prada store building and then left through the Aoyama cemetery. But good luck explaining that to the cab driver. :)

It really is quite simple to get off the N'Ex go up two escalators to the ticket barrier level, pass through the barrier, and look for signs for Marunouchi North Gate. There is an elevator adjacent to the stairs (a left handed baseball throw from the ticket barrier) if people have luggage. Once outside at street level stand still and look for the taxi rank sign.
There is less walking to a tax from the N'ex platform than there is at say SFO when deplaning from a domestic flight. From Tokyo Stn. to Midtown is a straight line with no doubling back. Clearly the most efficient way to do it. Not even remotely difficult. Hot as heck yes, but not hard. :-) |

NEX to taxi (Marunouchi North Exit) is easy if you know what you're doing but can be confusing.

I must have been doing something wrong because I used to do this regularly (not to go to Marunouchi North Gate but to change to Chuo Line) and didn't find it straightforward or easy with luggage even though I've done it before and understand the language. There were always some construction works going on (have they finished now? I haven't gone that way for a couple of years now) and some areas were cordoned off.

Not sure if they have finished construction. Basically, you either take the elevator or escalator from the platform up to the floor where they have the ticket wickets. Go out the wicket and there's another elevator on the side away from the main station and slightly to the North (direction of Narita). Take that to the top. You're 20 meters from the Taxi queue.

Best case for NRT immigration for me has been no wait. Worst case is 60 minutes. It really pays to move as quickly as you can from the plane to the immigration area, it can save you 15-20 minutes in the worst case.

The construction on the Marunouchi side is done and it is absolutely gorgeous over there now. The Yaesu side is a mess though.

99% of my arrivals into Japan have been off overnight flights from AU/SEA arriving between 0530 and 0730. The only time I've ever spent more then 30ish minutes in Japanese Immigration (HND, NRT and KIX) was coming off QF21 in mid Oct last year.
