Kyushu Regional Cuisines

Minna san,

I'll be heading to Kyushu tomorrow, possibly for a week. Although I've visited Fukuoka before, I'd appreciate a bit of advice about wintertime must-tries anywhere in Kumamoto/Kagoshima/Kitakyushu/Aso/Fukuoka too.

No dietary restrictions, and willing to try anything. Visiting depachika and konbini for "季節限定" products is a priority as well.

When we were there, members of my family who tried it actually liked the horsemeat sashimi which is a Kyushu speciality.

I tried the famous local ramen chain which everyone loves and was not overly impressed, however.

In Kagoshima, try kibinago sashimi. Served with sweet miso and citrus.

I've given up looking for a shochu that I genuinely like. Fortunately, Kyushu has nihonshu and beer, some of which is very good indeed.
