Here comes the rain
Rainy season officially started last week, but it's been nice weather most days since, at least in Kansai. The news tonight is all about how that's going to change, as the rain front becomes active over Honshu along with a typhoon coming up later in the week. Don't forget your umbrella.

it was um......really hot going for lunch in downtown Osaka today
|
Drizzling here on the Kanto Plain. Cool, yet sticky. I've never liked the rainy season but at least there's no wind.

Wind is probably coming to you soon. Stormy here in Kansai this afternoon and muggy. I just opened the freezer to get some ice and the fog rolled out like there was a smoke machine in there.
|
I've always rather enjoyed the rain... but I can't say I care for that hot and muggy business. A nice evening shower when it's already cooled down is just delightful! Open up the windows so long as water isn't pouring in and enjoy that cool refreshing air. :)

From what I understand the Typhoon is coming through the Osaka area today.
How much effect will one these have on air travel? My flight back is not until later this week (Thursday), but is there any chance of residual delays (perhaps due to aircraft or crew that could't make it in earlier)? Thanks, |

I found a 3-inch-long spider in my room yesterday. It looks like they know they need a shelter from this storm. I visited a public bath house on purpose. Guess why ? Because I had expected that few people would be there. Yes.^ There were fewer customers than the employees.
Advice for tourists to Japan. It is very hard to catch a taxi while a typhoon is striking the region. It took 15 minutes for me yesterday. If you have planned to take NEX or SkyLiner and then a taxi, it would be clever to switch to Limo Bus all the way. |
Storm blew over with much rain and rattling. Beautiful cool, breezy day on the Kanto today.^

In Nishinomiya (halfway between Osaka and Kobe). Storm was aimed at our house for most of the day, then turned a bit to the right and hit Ise peninsula. A breezy rainy day and the roads are dirty with debris, but not even stormy. Next one is due on the weekend, but I imagine that it will miss too. Very rarely do we get anything close to a direct hit.

I don't think I'd describe a high of 28C as "cool"...

Wow. Last night in TYO was unbelievable, at least from the perspective of someone who's never experienced a typhoon in Asia.
I was in the streets of Aoyama at about 10-11pm, exiting a building when I raised my umbrella which was promptly COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY destroyed by the wind and horizontal sheets of rain. It became permanently pressed up against my face, reminiscent of some sort of asphyxiation by plastic bag. I started laughing as my suit was soaked through in about 15 seconds flat. Only then did I noticed about a dozen of those clear 500 Yen umbrellas blowing down the street among remarkable few taxis which were all busy transporting home wet Tokyo-ites. Eventually got a cab, but noticed cab lines 10-20 deep at the hotel, the likes of which I haven't seen since the madness in the aftermath of the quake - which was of course much worse. Now, today is utterly gorgeous! |
