Well, I'm not sure why you felt the need to post that sentiment in the Prince Hotel Appreciation Thread, but all of those things that you listed as negatives are things that I liked about the place, so thanks for that. :p

It's a moot point anyway since the Prince Akasaka has, I believe, been closed for several years.

The whole haikyo subculture is proof that you can still appreciate things after they are gone. :p

I'd but the Prince Park Tower Tokyo as one of the finest hotels i've stayed at. Not the greatest location for everything, but the property itself was wonderful in every way.

How you guys judge the PRINCE PARK TOWER TOKYO ?
Have booked a corner room.

I've stayed there twice, but not in several years. It's not one of the premier luxury properties in Tokyo or anything, but it was very nice. I really liked the club lounge.

Thanks for reply.
I asked for an high floor corner room, though I see they reserve the higher for premium rooms. The lounge looks good ambience.

i can identify with OP in terms of having "appreciations" that are perceived to be odd

not sure OP's is necessarily that odd, because there is a nostalgia element

or, sometimes people dont understand why you are nostalgic for something
which could definitely apply to OP, but not THAT strongly i dont think

We went to Japan in October 2008 and again Ocober 2010 and on both occasions stayed multiple times at both the Shin-Yokohama Prince and the (low rise) Tokyo Prince. The Tokyo Prince is in an excellent location in the shadow of the Tokyo Tower.

Prior to planning our first trip we discovered the Prince Club International membership option. We joined for free and this gave us a lot of benefits, including free buffet breakfast, discounts for all advance bookings, plus discounts for stays of three or more nights in sequence.

In general these properties are three star rated, and that is what you get.

They are NOT the Hyatt or Hilton and should not be compared with them.

We are planning to stay in Japan again for the month of October, but sadly the Prince Club International seems to have totally lost it's usefulness and we are unlikely to stay at Prince again.

Previously PCI published an annual or seasonal rate sheet, but not for 2013. Now you have to go through their Honolulu office, state your intended date of travel and they would contact Japan for rates! Utterly ridiculous!!! Right now it is impossible to even find out if breakfast is still included and what discounts and specials are available!

If anyone can update our PCI info here it would be most welcome and likely helpful to many.

Some of my experiences at Prince Hotels:

Shinjuku - Tiny, dated room. Only good things about this place are the location and the view.

Sunshine City - large konbini off the lobby and connected to the Sunshine complex. Stayed once on their highest (or possibly second-highest) floor, and it was a small but clean room that looked recently redone. But I've also had another stay on a lower floor where the room was a complete dump along the lines of a Days Inn in the US.

Shinagawa - Room cleaner and more modern-looking than Shinjuku or the Sunshine's lower-floor one. But there was smell of urine emanating from the bathroom, which was nasty.

Alyeska (Alaska) - Actually stayed there probably almost 10 yrs ago. Knowing how bad Prince Hotels are in Japan, was surprised to find that Alyeska was actually a legitimate 4-star hotel on a completely different level from its Japanese locations.

Shin Yokohama - Did not stay but visited someone who was staying there. Small room with worn carpet, although I know they have some larger rooms also.

What's the Tokyo Prince like as a hotel, the rooms, the vicinity?

Re :Tokyo Prince Hotel

In response to aster, (with apologies for the long delay) we liked the low-rise Tokyo Prince Hotel very much. It is not the modern glass/chrome/concrete high rise so common in Tokyo today.

Set in it's own grounds the hotel is an oasis of calm in a busy bustling city. Rooms either face the (original) Tokyo Tower at the back or overlook the hotel's grounds at the front.

This hotel is a very comfortable relaxing clean three star property.
When we stayed there the substantial buffet breakfast was complimentary to PCI members but this has changed now.

Room rates across the Prince range now seem to reflect what previously was for PCI members exclusively.

Some properties now offer substantial discounts for 30 day advance booking and for stays of three or more consecutive nights. These rates now seem to only appear online so I'm not sure if double-dipping to combine both discounts is still possible.

Location wise the Onarimon Station is just beyond the end of the hotel's driveway, a safe walk of under five minutes. Tokyo Tower behind the hotel is a safe five minute walk day or night.

The Prince Karuizawa (not to be confused with Prince Karuizawa East and Prince Karuizawa West within the same complex) would, IMHO, change quite a few people's low opinions of the chain. "The Prince" is the high-end brand of the Prince Hotels chain, and certainly stands out as a class above the other Prince Hotel within the resort.

Really friendly, helpful staff, beautiful and newly-renovated rooms, very tasteful (non-buffet) breakfast, and close to all the action of the Prince Karuizawa complex, while being much more quiet and secluded (though not quite as quiet and secluded as a few years ago, when elementary school aged children and below could not stay there)

Up to two years ago this annex was only opened in the summer, but it is open year round now.

As usual, the English version of the site is old and truncated (it still claims that children aren't allowed) so use a translator on the Japanese version, or just click on the pretty pictures for more:

Staying at The Prince Karuizawa now. Booked an Executive Twin (third floor room that includes free beverages in the first floor lounge throughout the day, including beer and wine), but onsite secured an upgrade to the Family Suite for an additional 10000 yen. About three times the space, with two bedrooms and family room. Not as luxurious as a Villa, but at about a quarter of the cost it's a much better cost performance.

The amenities are the same Argan amenities found in the suites at Andaz Tokyo.
