NRT transfer help

I'm traveling through Tokyo this July, connecting from the US to ROC and from what I understand I can simply transfer without going through customs.
But if I go through the arrivals procedure when I arrive, will I have to claim my luggage or will it be transferred to my Taipei flight automatically. I'm planning on entering Japan merely for the stamp, at least on the east bound flight, on the way home I'll likely remain international.

You should be able to check your luggage all the way through to Taipei when you depart from the US. On arrival at NRT, it's up to you whether you go through the transit lane or follow the crowd to arrivals. You might face some questions from customs officials about why you have so little luggage, but that shouldn't be a problem.

Yeah i knew United can check it through, and i was planning to do just that, but my question is does anything happen if i exit the transit zone and enter Japan in terms of my checked bag remaining in the transit zone.

I'm just kinda worried that if they see I've entered Japan they will send out my bag on the carousel and I wont know to look for it. :(

If your checked bag is tagged for TPE in the US, it will be routed to the TPE flight when you land at NRT. I can only think of two likely scenarios in which your bag won't be on the plane to Taipei:
(1) The airline loses your bag
(2) You fail to show for your TPE flight and the bag is offloaded
Therefore, as long as you show up at the gate on time and board your plane, I think you're fine.
