Any Tips For JFK-HND?

I saw 1 post with JFK-HND and see it might be a bit of a hassle with the HND-JFK route back.

I am thinking to go to the airport around midnight-1am and just hang out at the lounge (sky lounge) until the 6:40am departure.

Anyone done this? I just don't see the point of paying for a hotel for a few hours since I would have to be at the airport 2-3 hours before.

Also no local trains from where I would be in Tokyo running that late to get to Haneda and the taxi is way to expensive.

Any thoughts? Tips? All are appreciated. Thank you.

Yes- this probably belongs in the Tokyo area forum since it is about the airport and trains, and not about AA. There is probably already information there on similar topics, so it might not even need a new thread there.

Cheers.

The prevailing discussion over there is that it is probably best to stay at the JAL Haneda Hotel for around $120 the night before, since they have a shuttle to the airport that arrives in time for checking in for this flight.

As with others, you'd probably get a better answer in the Japan forum which is quite colorful with suggestions due to the re-opening of HND, albeit at odd hours.

My push is to crash at any number of cheap 24 hr manga/internet cafes near HND; my preference being the MangaLand in front of the Keikyuu Kamata Sta. Drinks are free in there and 15 min tops directly to HND when train starts running again at 4:30AM. :)

Just did this last week when I went to HND on an inaugural flight. Haneda is a beautiful and very well run airport. If you get there at night, you can get some sleep on the benches on the first floor. Benches are quite comfortable and at night it's not even that noisy as there will be quite a few people just lkie you sleeping there :).

The security is very friendly and will not bother you. There are shops, food and message at the airport 24hrs as well :)

Have fun.

As this question is not AA or AAdvantage related, we'll send this off to the helpful experts in the Japan forum for further assistance. Thanks! :)

Sleep on benches at an airport? You must be joking.

I'm sure its not as nice as a hotel room, but does sound like an option worth considering for some people.

If benches aren't your style, you can rent a cardboard box & blanket across the street from the airport. For an additional ¥1000 you can also lease a comfortable spot under the monorail for 8 hours.

;)

You would be surprised as how many people do that. My parents were there and opted to do that on the night before they flew back to jfk. Plenty of benches throughout the entire building.

Going back to the OP's talk of the Sky Lounge, the airport Web site says it's open 24 hours. Can anyone confirm that? I also read elsewhere that you can buy access for 1000 yen. Can anyone confirm that?

Thanks. Great report. I ended up spending the night in the lounge. Got pretty loud/crowded around 11PM or so (could have been due to the large number of flights canceled the night before due to a typhoon), but then got very quiet again. I thought it was a great deal for 1000 yen. Every cafe/coffee shop I went to in Japan charged about or over 500 yen for a cup of coffee; have two at the lounge and you're ahead.

Lucky you. My HND flight in DEC has been cancelled and now I have to fly to NRT instead. Looks like Sept is the last flight according to someone on the AA board.. sucks!.. I was looking forward to saving 2 nights hotel now i have to get accomodation and pay for expensive train rides. No way i'm taking the painfully and agonizingly slow Keisei Local after a long journey.. in Y
