Those fruit at at the Andaz don't look like any pomegranates I've ever seen.

Sure they weren't passion fruit?

That's it!

I apologize for lacking basic knowledge of fruitology.

After reading your blog report I am glad I chose the Peninsula Tokyo to celebrate my birthday ! Perhaps after I try the other 5 star properties in the city I will try the Andaz. Doesn't mean I won't check out the new building though !^

It's not freaky. There is no point in starting a new thread when there is ins with useful and current information in it, but thanks!

Freaky is in the eye of the beholder. IIWY, I would not assume that the information in a thread like this one is current.

Anyone stay at Chinzanso recently? What is the state of that hotel now that it's no longer 4 Seasons? I loved that hotel.

I had a late breakfast here last year. It still looks very nice. The nightly firefly displays are also spectacular.

They have fireflies in their garden? That sounds very nice. I think it was winter or fall when I stayed there. It's good to hear they're keeping up the property nicely.

It's only for a few weeks in the year. This year's exhibition may have ended already.

Fortunately it's not quite over yet -- officially the event runs until mid-July. This is actually the best time to view the fireflies. I live close by, and am planning to visit at the end of the month (if not earlier).

Used to work in that area. Looked like a very nice place to live. ^

Not to mentiont The Orchid Room, which is Power Breakfast central.

So I finally avoided the siren call of The Terrace Room this morning and had breakfast in The Orchid Room.

If by Power Breakfast you mean "power the yen out of your wallet", then I wholeheartedly concur. It would have cost me over 10000 yen to eat as I normally do in a breakfast buffet, so I went with oatmeal and french toast (no coffee...the extra 1000 yen would put me over budget)

The oatmeal was very good, on par with what comes with the buffet at the Palace Hotel. Of course, the real attraction was the famous french toast. This was a treat for many senses; the taste, of course, but the aroma alone made it worth the purchase. Also the feel as the warm, crunchy exterior gives way to the hot, fluffy goodness inside. Not too sweet in and of itself, so plenty of new flavor experiences to be had pairing it up with the variours fruits and condiments available. A masterpiece.

The staff is excellent, standing on attention like the robots in Asimov's The Naked Sun, ready to jump at anyone's beckon call. The Orchid Room itself was also a beautiful extension of the famous lobby. A luxurious, classy experience all around...too much so for the likes of me.

Perhaps I'll return to try the overpriced dinner buffet before
