It worked very well to get our toddler moving. She nearly had a panic attack at the bus station when we made a potty break and I told her she had FOUR MINUTES! FOUR MINUTES, BIG BIRD to get back on the bus. She was absolutely convinced it would leave without her and she would have to wander around Shinjuku park with her mom Barkley singing sad songs and learning about the bamboo princess.

BTW, how come Big Bird gets to fly business class? Is it because he is a bird of size?

FWIW - Sanrio Purioland is relatively close to the Meiji University Ikuta campus.

From Ikuta, it's a 25 minute trip. (Change at Shin Yurigaoka for a train to Odakyu Tama Center). So the OP and her child could accompany papa to his work, spend a morning with Kitty chan, then meet for lunch or something.

If you enjoy hello kitty shaped food, there are many, many options at hello kittyland. The place is cheesier than mickey mouse's fridge, but very much geared to native nihongo speakers. So, while the toddler is having a blast, you can quizically wonder what the signs say, what the kids are saying to you, what hello kitty is saying to you, etc, etc. So it does seem somewhat cultural in a kawai kinda way.
