1. I think you better have a price range before the team here floods in with places, it can be real expensive

2. Electronics ? Shinjuku / Akihabara / Ikebukuro sounds a more reasonable choice for me unless you are going for the Sony Building / Apple Store.

I have no idea if this is a reasonable amount, but would something like $100 get me anything worth trying?

Maybe not kobe; perhaps wagyu. Tastes pretty good to me.

The teppan-yaki places that Pickles has recommended sounds very good, however due to my allergies to shellfish and asthma (irritated by the grill in front of me), those type of places don't suit me too well. But I'll try anywhere else that you guys recommend - Beacon sounds interesting as well, though I wonder if it's more "American-ized" from what I saw on the web.

Also, Switching gears for a minute, I'd also happily take any recommendations for good tonkatsu and yakitori places. Are there any FT'ers have enjoyed visiting near Roppongi?

Tonkatsu in Roppongi Hills called Wako. Bottom Floor of Metro Hat. Very good.

Yakitori in the heart of Roppongi but decidedly excellent is Kushimura. (Google: "Kushimura Roppongi" and it pops up every time.

Both places offer English.

For beef a thought is Zakuro (again, google is your friend) which is less than a block from your hotel and across the street from the American embassy. High end beef can be had and the cooking is in boiling water so it will be excellent for Asthma. (fellow asthma sufferer so I sympathize). The beef is highly regarded there.

There's a great, authentically old-appearing, counter-type, moderately priced, tonkatsu place about 3 minutes walk from Meguro station. I could find it again in a flash, but it's difficult to give instructions. Let me try, though.

Exit Meguro station from the southwest exit. Cross the major streets in front of you diagonally to end up on the southwest corner, walk one short block and turn left on a little side street -- the place is on the right.

Anyone else know this place?

If I follow your directions correctly, I think it's Tonki. Do photos of the interior look right?

Everybody, genuflect! The temple of とんき shall always rule! The other sect in competition is the temple of Butagumi.

Ya. Tried it last night & was disappointed. No spice. Period.

Time to head to 690 Thai by Tokyo station.

I don't know if anyone on here has visited Isen near Uenohirokoji station, but I had an excellent and affordable tonkatsu. Here is a link to a picture of their entrance and this is the location. I think the most expensive tonkatsu during lunch was under Y3,000 and it filled me up. I'm sure there are a ton of places you can find closer to Roppongi, but I thought I should share my experience.

I find this site very useful - only if you can read Japanese - for finding places to eat (I liken it to Yelp here in the States): http://r.tabelog.com/tokyo/A1307/
