Protected from delays JL to JL on different tickets?

I am considering buying a JL ticket ITM-NRT connecting to a different ticket (part of a OW RTW) NRT-BKK. If for some reason ITM-NRT was heavily delayed or cancelled, would JL sort me out or i'd be in trouble and should just take the train up to Tokyo and be safe?

I've had that dilemma, connecting to a flight out of NRT. Train really is the safer way of doing it.
