JL ticket: Middle Name required if on Passport? [2019]

JL ticket: Middle Name required if on Passport? [2019]
Just off the phone with a JL partner and they mentioned a new requirement to have middle names on JL reservations if its listed on your passport.
I haven't had an issue with this before, but sounds like a very recent change.
Previous threads indicate it was not an issue.

Flew last month on AS tickets, no issue with middle name on passport but not on tickets/boarding passes.
ETA: SFPD field is the one that needs to match the passport, not necessarily the PNR name. My middle name is in my AS account so it possible it was passed on the ticket without being visible to me. Or the counter agent is able to update/clear it at check in.

No need.
I never put my middle name on any tickets not issued on JAL (BA/AS redemption tickets). Just a hustle trying to get the right name combination when looking up your booking (to select seats etc.)
Japanese people (the majority of JAL client base) almost never have a middle name anyway.
