Shortfall for Sapphire Renewal

Hello everyone,

I was wondering whether JAL will renew my membership with slight shortfall of a few thousand miles. Has anyone have similar experiences?

I asked CS at Hong Kong based JAL Center and their answer sounded a firm "no".

Thanks in advance

Absolutely not.

Your best bet is to do a mileage run somewhere. Be careful as many discounted CX Y fares will not qualify for any mileage.

Have they done it before? Yes, a former FTer got the renewal without the required FOPs. Will they do it for you? Probably no.

Start working on getting the FOPs you need. Dont expect any leniency.
How many FOps are you missing?
A quick HKG-KUL-SIN/BKK-NRT-OKA-NRT-SIN/BKK-KUL-HKG on MH and JL should cover the return well.
(separate HKG-BKK/SIN and BKK/SIN-OKA tickets on MH and JL respectively)
November is your last bet to get cheap(er) tickets before the end of year high season kicks in.
Hurry if requalifying matters to you!

How many actually? If you are needing less than 10K miles, it is doable without too much expenses.

I guess it also depends if the shortfall is JAL group FOP or general OW FOP. JAL FOPs are more expensive to come by.

How many actually do you need? A specific number will help with getting specific suggestions on how to make up the shortfall.

If you are free this coming weekend, this (link) is a one-off cheap fare NRT-SIN on JAL economy on booking class S that will net you 4,968 FOP (2,484 x 2) .You can up the booking code from S (50% accrual) to premium economy etc. for better accrual. Just play with the google calendar and destinations.
If you dont mind, departing from KIX is usually cheaper than Tokyo. KIX-LAX or KIX-BKK is usually a good FOP earner.

here is a very last minute MR to get FOPs.
RGN-BKK-HND/NRT-LAX/SAN/SFO for 2000 USD.
