is there enough time to make connection in HND

Good morning,
The wife and I are on a flight from SIN-HND-JFK. My concern is we land at 950am in HND, but our connecting flight is 1040am. I assume we would be in transit passengers so wouldn't have to clear customs. But with less than an hour I am worried we wont be able to make our next flight if gates are far apart. Hoping you have some insight to ease my trepidation. Thanks!

There is not need to clear immigration and customs. There is a quick transfer security check, and then on to the gate.

If you are running late, JAL will send staff to assist you making your connection. No worries about the connection in my view (based on being one ticket for both flights)

By experience, the overnight flights from Singapore tend to arrive early.

Nothing to worry.
Haneda is pretty small. You can go from one gate to the other in 20 minutes.
I've done transfers from international to domestic in less than 30 minutes.

assuming you are on same ticket should be ok... for comfort of your mind there is JAL #4 that leaves NRT fo JFK at 730pm so IF you really miss the connection you could technically asked to be put in that flight although you need to take 1hr shuttle. arrival to JFK is at 6pm ish so you miss the first day in JFK (as opppsed to landing at 10am from HND) but it should not be end of the world.

personnally if it was me i would rather take SIN NRT on JL712 leaving at 830am SIN arriving to NRT around 4pm, have 3hr connection before flight to JFK. that way you can sleep on JFK route instead leaving SIN at 230am with day flight to JFK with morning arrival to JFK... if you couldnt sleep thats a hell of an ordeal

Unfortunately since I am booking via AA points my options for flights are limited. But it sounds like we have plenty of time and in the event we are delayed there are still other options. Thanks for the info everyone.

You'll be ok.
SIN-HND-JFK is a common connector route on JAL, and you will be escorted to your plane should you be late. Worst case, you get re-booked to the evening flight, and spend the whole day sight-seeing in Tokyo. You might even secretly wish you miss your connection!

I had this connection last week and about 6-8 hours prior to my flight I received notification of a 75 minute delay on the SIN-HND flight (which obviously would kill my connection).
JAL does not have 24 hour service numbers so this threw me into a fairly unhappy state as I started looking at options--I resorted to calling the UK number which was open at the time. Was on hold with them when I got a call from the local office in SIN who were proactively working the connections. They asked if I could come down for the early redeye (2215-1 departure instead of 0215) so that I could pick up the rest of my itinerary.

Mildly inconvenient but still a big ^ for the staff and service.

@rhoman, you could also monitor the inbound JL711 flight (inbound flight from Tokyo Narita returns to Tokyo Haneda as your flight JL38).
Check if there is a delay on JL711 on the evening prior to your departure, and then act proactively as MKE-MR said, should you see it delayed.
Seems JL38 is experiencing delays, even tonight..
