YYZ please. 4th largest city in North America and AC has monopoly on Japan flights (nonstop).

NH probably will be a better bet.

KIX-HKG should be a no brainer...it has been a popular route when it still existed

And maybe change the HND-HKG time? It doesn't allow much connection for domestic flights if landing after 8 nighttime...

Popular route that wasn't profitable. Also if it's KIX-HKG, JL could have resumed it before the restrictions were lifted. Perhaps KIX-LHR if JL can secure the slots at LHR.

Yes wish HND-HKG is timed better. Can't really find good domestic connections on either direction. Between looks like KA just suspended HKG-HND according to Will Horton.

Out of curiosity, what were the routes that JL could and couldn't expand due to the restrictions.

If they could time a KIX flight to arrive in LHR a bit earlier than the HND flight, and be out again around 4pm it might be possible. The mid day slots in LHR are not that hard to come by.

But is Europe the place where JL should expand though? How about regional flights within Asia, say India?

But would there be enough demand between KIX-LHR?

I thought they couldn't resume the KIX-HKG flight because of the restrictions

Yea, with KA cutting HKD-HND...only left with CX and JL to operate this route (OW wise). Let say if JL matches NH time for HND-HKG? Cause midnight Japan bound flight out of HKG seems profitable

Not sure about the demand on KIX-LHR but that was once a rumored new route on JL's radar.

Didn't NH cut its red-eye HND-HKG frequency too?

Thought the restriction was no more new routes unless it was called out in the medium term plan filed but JAL could resume suspended routes. That's why JL could start NRT-DFW.

NRT-MEL could be a contender for APAC even if QF beat them last year. Why? Let's just say my company is working with 3 JP Auto Firms for their Supply Chain and Logistics needs in th MEL suburbs and we are about to finish these massive warehouses for them with a total floor space of over 200K sq.m. considered the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere. That's business class money for JP execs and employees flying back and forth.

PER, MIA, AMS could be good candidates as well. KIX-LHR possible if JL recently was able to grab the 2 slot pairs of rumored sold for 75M USD but then I don't think JL is willing to pay this much money.

Might be good if they do start KIX-LHR, as JL is part of the Tran-Siberia agreement, BA and AY would be sharing the cost(though sharing the profit as well)

Not sure if NH did, as they are still operating around 10-11 flights weekly.

Any chances JL might take advantage of some of the unused HND overnight slots on the Japanese side, such as MNL, HKG, AMS or DXB?

DXB has very little practical OW connection possibility. And going head to head with Emirates on O&D traffic is probably not the best business strategy for a quick win.

MNL is not well suited for overnight flights. It is too short. That could be said for HKG as well, though the return to Tokyo from Hong Kong is better suited. Helped by the time zone.

A return to Amsterdam could maybe work. But the connections would not be great on OW.
