HND security queues?

According to wikipedia, HND is busier than LHR.
Does anyone have direct experience of check-in and security queues at the International terminal?
Also, I believe that there are customs and passport control stages to negotiate.

Departing on the 11:20 JAL flight on a Friday in late May.

The main part of the traffic is in the domestic terminals. There can be relatively long lines for security in Haneda. During the morning and evening peaks. Though rarely really bad. End of CNY, begining of Golden Week, Obon, and silver week can give very long lines though. You will avoid these, but will probably be there for the morning rush. Nothing really to be concerned about, not LHR style bad.

Thanks for the reply.
I will aim to get to HND International terminal by 9:00. That should give me plenty of time for security and emigration procedures.

That will be be plenty in all cases. And more than plenty on a lot of days.

Haneda is starting to get too crowded at times in my experience. It soon needs an expansion of facilities in the international terminal.

Hi,

I flew out of HND international terminal on 10th Jan back to LHR on BA (flight at 0950) and there was very little wait at security or immigration at 0705.

Regards

The morning rush is not that early, it is around 9 to 11.

HND is a quite busy airport, but most flights are domestic.
I had never seen long queues in the International terminal of HND unlike NRT.

I have seen them stretch past the check in counters, and the priority line stretching almost to the JAL F counter. So it does happen. But usually only in connection with major holidays.

I have flown out during the morning rush and the lines are really quite long even on a global standard. However, the feeling of irritation/annoyance etc that you will experience at LHR/LAX/ORD/wherever etc won't be there at HND Relax

Just to tag onto this old thread with a related question:

For a 2pm weekday (Wednesday) domestic HND-ITM departure (late November), how much time should I allow for security checks after arriving at the airport?

Thanks!

I would not expect any significant lines. Domestic security is quite efficient. Though it recently has been slowed a bit by changes to the procedures. I would not expect more than a 5 minute wait.

Thanks for that info!
For such a flight, do you also know what the typical start/end time of boarding is? The plane is a 777 -- something like from 45min to 10min prior to departure time?

On the JAL website, they say if you arrive at security by 20 min before departure, you are allowed to make the flight. Things seem much more efficient in Japan...

Normally JAL starts the boarding of a domestic 777 20 minutes before departure. And yes, the flights still depart on time.

The 20 minutes before departure is when you scan your boarding pass at the security check point, not when you line up.

And if you're up against it and the queues are horrendous, security agents will generally let you cut in line.

Or you can check in 30 or 40 minutes before departure and the JAL counter staff will escort you through the crew line.... or you can just boldly stroll the crew line on your own.
