JAL won't compensate you. It is up to AA.

You are out of luck. AA is the one responsible for compensating you for a scheduled (i.e. well in advance) downgrade, and all they will offer is the difference in miles. Which, as you state, is 0.

I was in a similar situation (AA reward on CX) last year and I got nothing.

*On MAY 5 and 6, JL771 and JL772 (Narita Sydney route) will be operated by Boeing777-300. Please refer to the following site for the in-flight meal menu.
Interesting.. @THR would be pissed if his flight has F at the end but he downgraded his award to C LOL

I'm flying mid June. But will obviously have to monitor for such things.

Presume it it is an outlier.

MAY 5 and 6 is the end of golden week in japan, so the temporary capacity increase. JL771 and JL772 (Narita Sydney route) will be remain on the 787 till northern winter 2017/2018.

So, it wasn't quite first, but we finally flew our much anticipated, long planned flight on JAL772 on 16 June. I have posted some images here:

I'm not going to do a full flight report or anything; but, in summary:
* Plane was very modern and clean; I noted the cabin crew were also cleaning frequently, so it wasn't just that the plane was new
* The seats were great. Very spacious. Very comfortable. As this leg was a day flight (return is overnight), we didn't sleep
* TV screen is large and good resolution
* We pre-ordered the Japanese meal, photos of which I have attached. While some of the flavours were unknown to me, I was impressed with the freshness/quality of the ingredients, and flavours. Unsure of what we will order on return - might just decide on the flight
* The cabin crew were very attentive and friendly. Service was excellent generally
* We had seats 4H and 4K and had no issues with the lavatory or galley. But then again, the flight was probably only 30% full in business.

Thanks JAL!
