Suspension of online functionalities from Dec 10 2015

JAL will suspend a lot of online functionalities, e.g. OLCI, award search, etc from Dec 10 2015 till Mar/Apr 2016. Not sure if this only affects the US region website only or not.

There has been no similar communication in Japan. So far...

Looks like it's US and Guam region only according to the announcement...wonder if this is related to some US specific regulations.

Well sure enough I was looking at Cathay awards and magically it all disappeared a few minutes after midnight 12/10/15. Am located on East Coast of the USA. Details of suspension come up after you sign in.

any idea where to check CX or even JAL award ?? is this to prevent massive usage from AA user before their devaluation (3/22)??

I think it's pretty crazy that they think a 4-5 month outage is okay. In any case I created another account on the Japan version (English language) of the JMB website and was still able to search for awards via the calendar. Might be worth looking into for those that need to use up those AA miles and don't want to search on BA's website day by day...

It's still possible to continue the award search calendar function in the Japanese site (you have to register another account in Japan tho). But I'm not able to find anywhere else to easily change my current reservation seat assignment. If you try to pull up the current reservation, it simply replay that the reservation detail is not correct.

can't check for awards from US web site

The following online services are temporarily not available on American region site and Guam region site due to system improvement.

Why would JL do this? How can it take them 4 months to reprogram their web site? So now if we want to book an award on JL using AA points we have to call AA for availability? What a nightmare this will be trying to get through to AA as thousands of people who did award searched online will now all be calling AA on the phone constantly.

I couldn't find the Japan JAL page for reservation confirmation (does it exist?), but the Hong Kong JAL page works for my trip ticketed by AA (including seat assignment). I don't understand why they don't simply redirect people there.
