Chances to be overbooked by JAL in F?

I see some flights are available for both purchasing and for award redemption (with JAL and it`s partners) in F. However, if it says one seat available, there is no seat assignment available. When three seats are open, only two are shown on seat map.

Did you experience the same, and how risky is to book such flights in the event of no interest to be bumped out? It`s not like it`s Economy class where one seat is more chances of no show up, but with First, there are only eight seats available with less chances of no show up.

I think it has to do with blocking seats for infants?

How so?

They try to keep a couple of seats open for VIP (PROM) until a couple of days before the flight.

So would you book it on a day with unavailable seat assignment (overbooking/full), or try to get a day with more open space and seat assignment option?

Not all seats are available for advanced selection for award passengers

Zero risk. JL will not overbook F.

I meant which one is NOT occupied. Obviously you cannot select an occupied seat.

808takeshi Feb 2, 2015 2:03 pm

Absolutely zero risk. F is never ever overbooked.

Echoing two of the above two posters, JAL does not overbook in F.

Just because you cannot select a seat in F (be it award or paid ticket) does not mean that it's not available. As mentioned previously, they always leave at least one seat for VIP or some such usage. If they can sell you a seat, there'll be at least two seats opened at the time of your booking. 1A (and sometimes 1K too) are the two that are most often blocked off. So, maybe count yourself lucky, you just might be getting one of those two seats :D (of course, that might not be your preferred seat...)

I am traveling two weeks later and I am seeing the same. Let me see what will happen :P

Usually 1A and 1K are blocked for full fare F-Class or JAL MB VIP members. You can have the call center put in a request for these seats and they will be confirmed (or not) sometime between when you request and the opening of OLCI.
