JAL will be migrating to Amadeus on Nov 16, 2017

TOKYO July 31, 2014: Japan Airlines (JAL) has signed an agreement with Amadeus IT Group, S.A. (Amadeus) (*1) for Altea (*2) as part of its Passenger Service System (thereafter “PSS”) (*3) transformation programme.

At present, JAL is operating its own PSS for both Domestic and International services. The airline is currently conducting the detailed planning of its PSS migration and JAL aims to move from its existing PSS to Altea in 3 years.

...
So international and domestic flights will finally have a single system, i.e. no more 4 digit PNR for domestic reservations. Hopefully it will be a smooth transition unlike certain oneworld partner who did that recently.

Do you mean Royal Jordanian, Cathay Pacific, or Sir Lankan?

Himeno Jul 31, 2014 6:48 am

Why "in 3 years"?

That's not long considered the complexity and scale of the project.

JAL will finally switch to Amadeus in November 2017. Hopefully with 3 years of planning it will be a smooth transition unlike CX's migration.

Man! Just when I started to feel like I had figured out some of the quirks of JAL's reservations.. hopefully this will allow easier bookings from smaller US airports.

Date has been set. It's Nov 16 2017

There are some changes in ticket handling for both cash and award tickets https://www.jal.co.jp/en/info/pss/dom/

This will take away a lot of flexibility from the system. My company is already recommending we book other airlines. Too bad.

Of course, the old system is a custom-made in-house system. And looks like those who are required to fly in Y domestically by their company will have to wait till check in to upgrade to Class J and F after the migration.

I see a positive in this, as my domestic flights are usually private bookings, and this should give a higher availability of F and J for me.... :D

So, only AA, S7, and MH are not using Amadeus. Correct?

MH migrated to Amadeus last month.

Assuming you're asking about OW, then LA doesn't either (but JJ does).

Ugh, the removal of waitlisting for users of the shareholders' fares and same-day award fare standby is a disappointing change.
