Tokyo Delhi flying time

JAL 749 from Tokyo to Delhi has 10 hours listed as Travel Time whereas JAL 740 on the way back only has 7 hours 30 minutes listed? It's a pretty significant difference to account for head winds on the Westbound trip. Any know why?

I only see 8 hrs 40 mins listed (and 9 hrs 35 mints from Oct) not 10 hrs

And the return scheduled flight time is 8 hrs 20 mins (and 7 hrs 50 mins from Oct)

That makes more sense. Both aa.com and ITA websites show 10 hours. Must be a mistake.

ITA is showing 8h40m on August 9, with the return flight showing 8h20m on August 16.

Are you able to reproduce the incorrect info? If so I'd like to track it down, so let me know.

In that case, the schedule hasn't been announced yet. The placeholder schedule shows it's 10 hours vs 7.5 hours.

If you look at historic data, the flight time are actually similar. And the placeholder schedule appears to have more schedule padding than before. Not sure if that will stick, only time will tell.

I flew this route. I remember they flew parallel to the Himalayan mountains on the southern side.
Jetstream runs stronger there in winter and it is gone in summer.

Japan Meteorological Agency explains this with an animated GIF.
Look at figure #3 here.

It's interesting this affects Japan's rainy season, too.
