I was at Logan on Sunday afternoon/evening taking Swiss to Zurich. JAL had monopolized most of the counters there including the ones used by Swiss. There was a bit of tension when Swiss showed up and told the JAL folks to vacate the counters... The counters were divided into "transfers" and "hotel" - they put everyone up at the Logan Hilton who did not want to transfer. Seemed to be handled very well. Agree with Pickles that most pax were Japanese.

The video shows the 787 involved was JA825J, the first 787 delivered to JAL

I just checked a booking I have for an unrelated reason when I got a notice of a flight change. Searching through the booking, I found the notice was for JL36 SIN-HND NOV 19. The times changed from 2155-0550+1 to 2200-0540+1 with 787 removed from "Aircraft type" (which is now blank).

Any idea's about what's happening?

This should be the 2nd roundtrip of this particular aircraft (JA822J) and it requires maintenance that cause a delay of 24 hours already Good that JAL stages the BOS launch to 4 weekly flights for exactly this reason ^

Anyone knows what's wrong with the aircraft?

Notice of temporary change in aircraft (Narita-Boston JL007/008)

We will change the aircraft on this service from Boeing 787 to Boeing 777 due to temporary change in aircraft rotation on the following dates. The seats in Business Class will also change from JAL SHELL FLAT NEO to JAL SHELL FLAT with this aircraft change.

[Applicable Dates]
October 18 and October 22
Any idea what exactly is going on over there at JL with their 787's? If memory serves NH didn't have quite as many problems when they first took delivery of these birds....

Actually NH had some problems with their 787's too and had to switch to 777 on their HND-FRA route temporarily too. But this is just a aircraft rotation and might have to do with the mid-Oct launch of 787 service to SIN. But I would have expected them to switch out 787 on other routes instead though

Great another GEnx failure which might indicate a design flaw. Hopefully they can find out the problem and have a fix ASAP for the JAL 787 fleet

Actually there was a third case of environmentally assisted cracking found. But all JAL 787s have been inspected and no problems have been found

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...438622474.html

failure on a Boeing Co. BA -0.21% 747-8 this month differed from an earlier incident and an inspection finding, though they have yet to determine the exact cause.
So there could be more potential problems to the GEnx engine
