Just to kick start a wiki, with answers to frequent questions.
1. We're flying HND-NGO-HNL. NGO-HNL is booked in business class, but HND-NGO is in economy. Will we still get the baggage allowance as if we're flying business class the whole way?
A: Yes. written here (link)
2. We're flying HND-NGO-HNL. Will we have lounge access in HND?
A. Definitely, within the lounge access rules of course. written here (link)

About a week ago, I was in a situation where I had to book a flight one day prior to departure.
Luckily last-minute award seats were available, so I tried to book one with my JL miles using the JL Mileage Bank website.
However, the website kept giving me an error message that said "Error: The requested departure date is too soon. Please modify your dates and try again", and wouldn't allow me to book the flight that was one day out.
At the end I had to use AA miles instead to book the flight.

Now that a few days have passed and I had some time to think about it, I am wondering whether JL Mileage Bank has a rule where one needs to book award flights at least X days out.
Does JL have such a rule?

Also, even if last-minute award flights cannot be booked online, is there a chance they could be booked over the phone instead?
I did not think about calling JL at that moment, but now I am wondering if things would have ended differently if I had called.

Hi all, flying SGN-HND-GMP in JL business class, with ~8 hour layover in HND. Ideally I would like to proceed to JL lounge for a shower and then clear immigration and enter Japan to spend a few hours sightseeing.

Is there a way for me to proceed to immigration from the lounge / departures area during my layover? Canadian passport so no visa concerns.

No, there is no direct way from the lounge back to arrivals You would need a staff escort for that. And you'd probably spend quite a bit of time getting that arranged.

Use the TIAT shower rooms after arrivals. They should be fine with your J boarding pass. Alternatively they are 1050 yen including a cup of coffee.

I'm curious now, which route is the 14F seats on? I did Osaka, Fukuoka and Sapporo and definitely did not see that many F seats on any of those legs. I think on the Aomori trip there wasn't even an F (which isn't really that surprising).

HND to/from FUK, ITM, CTS, & OKA for domestic F. It's not every flight on those routes though. I've flown the 772 w/ 14F on FUK-HND.

I am oneworld sapphire and I booked on a codeshare (AA marketed JL operated), yet I still cannot select anything in row 5. Do you need to be a JL elite or is there some way I can get assigned a seat in row 5? AA agents, thus far, have told me they are blocked out.

Thank you.
I guess JL Mileage Bank is not a good program for last minute seats, haha.

Any domestic route operated by a 777-200. I have had it on Maha, Fukuoka, and Sapporo.

Hi folks,
  • Is it possible to set expertflyer alerts for JAL F (looking to book with virgin atlantic miles)
  • How many days before (and/or time) does JAL release their last minute F availability

Thanks in advance!

Are you sure VS transfers to JL?

Seems like ANA is the way to go:

Some JAL questions:

1. I have so far never been able to see what booking class code my tickets book into while flying JAL. I am a Finnair Platinum/OWE, and my FFP only gives points/tier flights for domestic JAL in classes F, E, Y, J, A and I. Is there any way to find out in which class my ticket books into? I usually book Ultra SAKITOKU / SAKITOKU Type A fares, depending on availability. I always book directly with the airline.

2. Also, I was wondering what the guesting rules are for the Diamond Premier lounges that have a designated security check, in my case OKA. Am I allowed to bring a guest (my wife) through the designated lounge security check or would she need to use the regular security screen and enter the lounge from airside? I think that the priority security is not "guestable" by OW rules, however as the lounge allowes one guest I was hoping we could both use the security check at the lounge entrance.

Thanks in advance!

I haven't purchased a domestic trip since the conversion to Amadeus so I don't know if it's more visible now than in the past, but using the earning from AS which map to the same earnings as JMB:

F (first), J (class J), Y (economy): Normal Fare, Child Fare, Round-Trip Fare, Discount for the Disabled, Care Giver's Saver, JAL Business KIPPU, e Business 6, Special Transit Fare, Remote Island Fare.

E (first), I (class J), A (economy): Tokubin 1, Tokubin 3, Tokubin 7, Tokubin 21, Sakitoku Type A, Sakitoku Type B, Super Sakitoku, Ultra Sakitoku, Senior Citizen Stand-By Fare, JMB Companion Fare *1, Sky Mate Stand-By Fare, Shareholder's Saver Fare, Transit Fare 7, Transit Fare 28, RAC Round-Trip Fare, etc.

You would probably have more concrete and definitive answers in the Finnair forum though.

Very stupid question:
I am an OWS - if I arrive HND from AOJ, can I use the lounge at HND?
Thanks

No departing flight, no lounge.
