A bit hard landing, and fairly heavy rain The JAL domestic terminal was almost lost from sight from the international terminal. But no problems landing.
The pilot did announce in advance that he expected to reach Tokyo before the typhoon. Seems it slowed down a bit.

JAL never ceases to amaze me.
For some reason, my or their mistake I don't really know, our corporate TA booked me on JL37 instead of JL35. So the lady at check in was a bit surprised to see me at 10pm. After a bit of me not understanding what she was talking about, the situation dawned on me.
After a bit of back and forth and at least two supervisers stopping by they moved me to the flight I needed, and had intended to book. And even got the "taihen, o matase itashinashita"
I was so bloody appreciative for them saving my bacon, and they apologised for keeping me there so long.
Lesson learned, read mails from corporate TA.

the dark side to launch red-eye HND-VIE service on Feb 1 2019. So what's next for JL after HND-MNL and NRT-SEA?

I'd still like to see Miami direct. A one stop to Sao Paulo could be nice. I would not object to a direct flight to Auckland.
As an aside, is there pretty free range on the late night Haneda to Europe flights, or where did the dark side's slot pair come from?

Europe is tricky now, as there is so little OneWorld connectivity. And while JL used to offer connections on Lufthansa from Frankfurt that seems to have died completely.

apparently NH red-eye HND-FRA has been doing well. According to the dark side thread, theres slot availability on HND-HEL too. Not sure why AY/JL didnt add daily service to HND.

Problem may be that the governments might want some competitive balance, but Star Alliance (read NH) carriers would not be interested in doing HND HEL, as connections would be rather limited.
