JAL Family Program

Hi, this is my first post here, so hope it's appropriate. I just got into the milage thing, and am finding it fascinating so far.

I am a long-term (ten years) resident of Japan, currently concentrating on JAL and Continental miles (Continental for Star Alliance non-expiring milage, for when I can't fly One World).

For JAL, I noticed the Family Program. Are there any drawbacks to joining it in Japan? My wife and I both have JAL cards, and I earn about three times as many miles as she does, which is going to make it hard to take trips together.

Any caveats before we join?

cheers

PS I know there is another thread about the FC, but it seems to be talking about the overseas one. This question is about the FC in Japan. Thanks!

Bump? Does no-one have any experience of this?

If you want to join JAL Family Program (FP), you have to apply through JALCARD MEMBER’S ROOM web site or call JAL Family Program desk for application form.

Here is a FAQ of application in JAL's site (in Japanese):

http://matchcontact.net/jalcardfaq/f...ogid=380075736

When joining FP, all members, 18 or above (except high school students), are must be JAL card holder. When FC does not apply this rule.

There are no drawbacks for joining FP if both of you have JAL card. All FP members in your family can use others' JMB miles directly if any of you don't have enough for an award. And sometimes there are deicated campaigns for FP members to earn double miles.

Also there is no membership/application fee to join FP for JAL card holders, that won't cost you anything.

Thanks jackho. That's pretty much the answer I was looking for :)

Hi, Sendaiben.

I'm a Family Plan member and absolutely love it. We rack up the miles through credit cards, use 'em to get coupons and/or upgrades, and all four of us (kids are 2 and 3 y.o.) get to use the miles. The only thing it doesn't 'pool' together is fly on points, of course. The kids' mileage from travel can be used by me or my wife if we need to travel alone, too. It's especially nice to upgrade when traveling alone with a child.

Hope that helps.
