Help with Rome booking!
 

Hi guys,

My girlfriend is coming over from San Diego and we are looking at going to Italy for a week. Currently looking at hotels in Rome and just have no idea where to stay.

We are both 28 and was looking at hotels, but from looking at the prices, it might be better to just pay for a hotel (as the price for both of us is equal to a hotel). However, we dont want to stay in a hotel that is far out of the city.

Can anyone help with a half decent hotel that is central and not over the top in price? or is that even possible?

Trying to do this holiday on the cheap, but at the same time know that Ive got to spend some money......

Also, how much should I set aside for food etc?

Any help would be great.

We stayed at Best Western near the University. Only a short bus ride to Termini and reasonable prices for rooms. There is also a cafe across the road that caters to students so is reasonable for snacks and a Gelato bar a few doors down that do not want to make their monthly nut on a few days sales. We enjoyed the Gelato. We had 2 dinners locally and prices were good.

Try Fellini Inn or Nicolas Inn - both are centrally located. They are B&B's, not hotels. I've stayed at both and the rooms are great but there is not a lot of common space. You'll be out roaming in Rome, not hanging out in your hotel room so save your money and skip the fancy lobby.

For some good recommendations on moderately priced Rome hotels, look at slowtrav.com and ricksteves.com

I would advise focusing on hotels in the historic center.

try using venere.com. make certain you look at B&B's and hotels that do not take on line reservations. there is a way to look at hotels in each separate part of rome.
