Thanx To You All...
This site really rocks! Recently I asked several questions about an upcoming trip to the Amalfi area concerning everything from connection times at fco to the train in Rome to renting a convertible in Salerno! Well, your responses have made it all very smooth. Tomorrow we fly from YVR to FCO with roll on luggage to avoid baggage claim in Rome, train tix in hand after booking online with trenitalia (very easy!), and have decided the hotel in Ravello has a bus stop so who needs a ragtop!! I may even write a trip report when I get home! In the meantime tho', thanx to everyone for their input, it was all very valuable. pb^^^

just back from the Amalfi Coast...
Feel a bit weird answering my own post but here goes anyway. Everything went well. Rome Airport is a dream (albeit a filthy one..) when you have roll on bags. We were on our way in no time as airport was quiet. Got into Roma Termini earlier than planned and were able to get a coffee and breakfast at the Travel Cafe just outside the station. 1st Class on the Eurostar* train to Salerno was a huge disappointment. Go 2nd Class and u won't know the difference! Train was so dirty and covered in graffiti so u couldn't see out the windows!
Amalfi Coast is magical except for the town of Amalfi which is a tourist trap. Positano wonderful, Ravello - u have to see it to believe the views - Capri was lovely if u get away from the shops and the tourist areas - try the Villa Brunella for lunch - great food and sensational views. And don't miss Minori and Maiori just 10 mins east of the town of Amalfi. Everyone's input took alot of the stress out of the equation for us. Oh, and the Hotel Marmorata in Castiglione/Ravello Mare is a find - keep it secret!;) |
