Travel from Naples to Positano

I'd like to hear any suggestions you might have on how to get from Napoli Centrale to Positano. I'd like to avoid hiring a taxi for the entire route (expensive). I'd prefer to take a ferry directly or to Sorrento, then catch another ferry or take a taxi from there. I wish to avoid using the Circumvesuviana train to Sorrent if at all possible.

The ferry company websites are all in Italian, and I am afraid my language skills aren't good enough to feel confident about the itineraries.

Thank you in advance for any advice you may offer. We leave for Italy this Wednesday!

This site has English, and a route from Naples to Positano. http://www.metrodelmare.com/

Other than the train, if you can get to the airport, and take the Curreri bus right from the front doors of the airport to Sorrento.

We took the bus one way, and it was a pleasant comfortable ride. Plenty of Luggage storage underneath.

On the 20th we are heading to Ravello which is not that far I guess from Positano. We are taking the train to Salerno and then the hotel has arranged for a cab to meet our train and take us to the hotel. It seems all pretty seamless and the cab ride from Salerno should be pretty picturesque for u to Positano. Best of luck.

Salerno is pretty far from Positano (and Ravello).

You can go by boat (Aliscafi) to Positano .. you may have to change in Sorrento?!
There are two problems:
-The big boat stays on sea and you shuttle with a small boat to the beach
-You arrive on the beach ... your hotel might be up the hill

You mention "expensive" .... if you don't want to spend money, don't go to Positano. I stayed in a 3* hotel some 10 years ago for $100+, it's now $300+!

A Mecedes Limo from Naples Airport or any of the Naples Rail Stations to all Towns on the Amalfi Coast (Sorrento,Positano,Praiano,Amalfi,Ravello etc...) is €110 for up to 3 pax through DriveAmalfi, email: [email protected]

I'd be tempted to take the limo from Centrale to Positano as suggested. If the weather is bad, the smaller ferries tend to close down until it passes. I was told that the drive from Sorrento to Positano is 90 mins which is probably longer than the drive from Centrale! We took the train to Salerno then a cab took us to Ravello for 50 euros. Positano is probably another 50. There is also the SITA bus which leaves from Salerno and makes its way all along the coast but the drive can be quite tortuous. Best of luck. Hope the weather is as good as it was for us.
