Rome airport FCO and CIA transportation
 

Is it better to get an official taxi at FCO or should I book a car in advance? How honest are the taxis there? Thanks in advance for any help.

The 4 of us booked with Rome Shuttle Limo this past April. Driver was waiting after baggage claim 50 euros to the Hilton Cavalieri.

As to the cabs, we used them frequently and the service was very professional, much more than in my own NYC.

I would also pre book a taxi. There is also a very good train connection to the city from the airport, if you don´t need to use the taxi.

Train is excellent choice. I forget price. At some point, if traveling in a group a taxi will make economic sense. Two of us trained to town and used a car service to get back to the airport.

The Leonardo Express is 11EU/pp and takes you from the airport to the center of town. From there, its very easy to get a taxi. You should be able to get just about anywhere inside the Mure Aureliane for another 10Euro. If you book a car service, you should probably contact your hotel for recommendations - or see if they will reserve one for you. Italian cars/taxis are often smaller than those in the US so more than 3 people with bags will require two cars.

We just returned from Rome and used also Romeshuttlelimo after a recommendation from another Flyertalk board.

We flew business class and carried on our luggage and were off the plane and to the meeting point within ten minutes of arriving. The driver was not there and we had to call to confirm he was on his way. They said he was parking and he showed up a few minutes later. So, if you want them to be prompt, you must tell them you have/are not checking bags as they anticipate a delay of your getting off the plane and to the meeting point. We paid 35 euros for three with bags, and it was a long trip from the airport to the Westin Excelsior.

We were traveling with another person who arrived on a different flight but flew coach. The driver was waiting for her as she exited and her fare was also 35 euros.

The rates for this company are very fair and I would recommend and continue to use them.

How about getting from FCO to Naples? My wife and I plan to spend a few days in or near Naples, then some time in Rome. It seems like a limo from FCO to Naples is about $400. What are the alternatives?

The train. Rome and Naples are not that close, depending on final destiantion "in or near Naples" you're talking 200 miles + very, very heavy traffic.

The train will be just as fast and sit on the left southbound to get a nice view of the ancient aqueduct as the train leaves Rome.

I was wondernig if anyone else had experience with any other shuttle?
I'm going with a group of 9, and their pricing is a little odd for 9 people...

I've tried other shuttles and the best is Roma Limousine Service. Drivers are on time, they wait if your flight is delayed, very helpful, and the best pricing. Plus our driver pointed out things along the way so a mini city tour all included. :)

I have used Rome Airport Shuttle several times, both arriving and departing Rome FCO. Cost is 40 € for one to two people + 5€ for each additional person.

I have had good and bad experiences with Rome taxis. Most were honest. Some were not. I would recommend the shuttle over a taxi to get to the airport. It's a little cheaper for two.

Here are a few taxi tips: 1. Get a taxi at a taxi stand. Don't succumb to someone, especially at train station or airport, waiving you to an alternate vehicle away from taxi stand. It's probably illegal and more expensive. I learned the hard way. If anyone is interested, I'll tell the story. 2. In Italy, the taxi meter starts when you call for a pick-up. In central Rome, they usually arrive fairly quickly, so it is not so bad. 3. Ask about approximate price to destination.

Yes, I too am wondering if anyone has tried this shuttle? Their rates seem reasonable (just 2 of us) and their website seems the most "put together" of those I've seen (ie, reliable).

Also, would people agree that if my departure flight is at 10am from FCO and staying near Spanish steps that probably best to book one of these shuttles? (as opposed to a taxi or train)
