Current thoughts on Venice Card?

I found a couple old threads that mention the Venice Card, but not much current.

We bought these cards a couple years ago, and found them fairly useful, especially the ability to just hop on and off transporation, which can add up quickly otherwise. We also stopped into a number of museums that we might have otherwise passed up since admissions can add up quickly.

I was just checking online, and the prices seem to have gone up quite a bit, and they now only offer options for 12 hours, 48 hours, or 7 days. I might be wrong, but I think we bought one for 4 or 5 days last time.

The prices for the 7 day Blue cards - transporation and museum discounts -are:

EU53.90 without the airport transport
EU76.90 with the airport transport

For the orange card - transporation and museum admission - they want:

EU79.90 without the airport transport
EU102.90 with the airport transport

(these prices include the online discount)

While I think the scope has increased slightly - we bought separate "Chorus" church passes last time and now they're included, this just seems to me like prices have gone up a lot.

Thoughts on the value, especially for someone who'll be there for 5 days?

If you answer yes to all of the following questions then the cards will save you money

#1 - are you arriving/departing by plane
#2 - do you plan to visit a lot of museums/churches
#3 - do you plan to ride the vaporetto

Tourist Travel Cards

milepig:

Thanks for posting the link ... lots of information on this websites.^

For transportation you can buy this:

TOURIST TRAVEL CARDS
The Travel Cards are the most economical solution for people who want to get around Venice and its surroundings on Actv’s land and water services. They allow unlimited travel and can be used on all the services - both waterborne (except those of Alilaguna, Clodia, Fusina) and on land - that provide urban services within the municipality ("Comune") of Venice (land services on the Lido and in Mestre).
Validity can be 12, 24, 36 48 or 72 hours from stamping, depending on the chosen tariff solution. Included in the price is the transport of one luggage item of up to 150 cm as the sum of its three dimensions.
Can be purchased from the Hellovenezia ticket desks and the authorized resellers.
They allow tourist coaches arriving at Venice main island to benefit from the ordinary "ZTL" (Limited Traffic Zone) tariff with ACTV public transport. (information: Hellovenezia call center +39 041 24.24).

13,00 € - 12-HOUR TRAVELCARD
15,00 € - 24-HOUR TRAVELCARD
20,00 € - 36-HOUR TRAVELCARD
25,00 € - 48-HOUR TRAVELCARD
30,00 € - 72-HOUR TRAVELCARD

With $1.31 for the Euro, Europe has become an expensive destination.
Anyway, have fun in Venice!

You are correct. I have bought several 3-day cards in the past, but now it seems that you must buy the 7day and like it.

In the past, the Venice card included free transport on the #5 bus from the airport to P. Roma, which left every few minutes. We have always used this route after picking up the card at the airport desk.

Ten-ride ticket

Hello -- I have seen reference to the ten-ride ticket for the vaporetto but have not seen a price, or a comparison to the Blue or Orange card, or simply to the timed cards (12 to 72 hours).

A rough calculation would indicate that you would have to get on and off the vaporetto fairly frequently to make a timed ticket worthwhile.

But who has the price for the ten-ride ticket? I assume this is good on any vaporetto and Mestre busses?

Thanks!

it is in here somewhere.

we usually do 4 rides a day. the Venice card was definitely the way to go.

the card was also available at some ACTV booths(one was at the train station)

Thanks, Slawecki -- It is in there -- 10 rides for 10 Euros. Not bad. As a family of five, we'd have to buy the equivalent of 150 rides with 5 x 72 hour passes. I suspect I'll try the 10-ride ticket, although I understand it does not let me on the "locals'" vaporetto, is that right? :(

You need to read the fine print about the 10 card ticket more carefully. You can only use those tickets in conjunction w/a "Carta Venezia" - which will cost you 40EU/person if you live outside of the Veneto, so it would by 5 x 40 EU = 200 EU then 1 EU/ticket/person/ride. You cannot simply use the 10 booklet w/o the Carte.
