Rome to Florence when arriving at midnight

Was looking for a little advise in regards to an upcoming situation. Arriving on TP at 12:05am and my goal is to get to Florence. I was originally thinking just crash at the airport or get a room at an airport hotel and take the first flight out on ITA. However, to my surprise, the earliest flight is 10am. I suppose w/ that being the case getting a room and not crashing at the airport would be better.

However, I was also thinking is it better just to go into the city at 12am upon arrival and then take a train? Looks the like the first train leaves quite early. Waste of money for a hotel room for 4-5 hours in that scenario but it would get me to Florence quicker.

Renting a car, not even sure if at that hour its an option, wouldnt be something I would want to do. Getting a ride from someone else would be fine but I imagine it would be an arm & a leg to get a lift from Rome to Florence, and especially in the middle of the night.

Been to Rome, havent been to Florence so ideally I dont need to go into Rome. Just sort of stuck here on the best plan. I also could just skip the LIS-FCO leg of my TP flight (LAX-LIS-FCO got me a killer deal for $1326 US in Business) and get myself to FLR but obvioulsy that would incur an additional cost to fly there. And I believe the earliest flight with a stop ofc wouldnt get me to FLR til 1pm.

TIA for any suggestions or advise.

It would be very close, but on certain days of the week, there is a 1:30 am FlixBus departure from Rome Tiburtina to Florence. The challenge would be getting from the airport to the bus station in time.

Hi thanks, Wow that would be perfect if it left from the airport. How long from the airport to the bus station? It would be 130am on a Saturday (so Friday night/Saturday morning). I dont know if that impacts that 130am bus running or not.

Being I am coming in from LIS is getting out of FCO easier/quicker since its Schengen? And at that time I wouldnt think FCO is too crowded. Maybe I can make the bus.

What would you recommend between just an airport hotel and the 10am on ITA Vs. going into the city and taking a train in the morning?

Just go to the FlixBus Europe website and enter your date of travel to check schedules.

Google Maps suggests that a taxi takes about 40 minutes from FCO to the bus station. That will not be cheap.

You could look at taking a train from FCO to Rome Termini rail station, and then a short taxi ride from there to Tiburtina. Check Google Maps for the train schedule.

Shoot no 130am on my night. Just that midnight one is the last one. So I am back to the drawing board. Still just so surprised how ITA's earliest flight is 10am.

The FCO-FLR flights are mainly for people connecting from long-haul flights; they don't make sense for people going from Rome when there are fast trains.

I see that Flixbus allows having Rome Fiumicino Airport as a starting point. For the Saturday that I checked, there's an option leaving FCO at 1.05 and connecting in Pisa.

:tu:

And it's possible that there will be a faster option for getting from Pisa to Florence by train or with a different bus company than by taking the FlixBus connection. But the OP would have to be mindful of where in Pisa FlixBus arrives, and from where in Pisa the other services depart.

I believe the fixed fare only apply to certain condition, and certainly not at night (at the very least there would be a further premium).

The problem is that the last train from FCO to Termini is at around 00:23 and the next after that is at 5:38 in the morning, so Taxi is the only option. Certain Car Rental companies may run a self service kiosk out of hours where you can simply pick the key and drive away (I suggest a full video, 360 degree, around the car - including the roof to show the presence or less of the radio arial - and pictures of any existing damage). And other than Rental, the Taxi is the best option. There are two fast trains options which are quite comfortable, Freccia Rossa and Italo that only takes 1hr 20 - 1hr 30 circa from Termini to Florence, and you will be right in the middle of the city (you could easily walk all the way to Duomo).

Not according to the Aeroporti di Roma website and the official Taxi Rates of the Municipality of Rome and the Municipality of Fiumicino: "The predetermined fares are all-inclusive of all supplements except for the supplement from the fifth passenger onwards. The predetermined rates include any motorway tolls."

You are right, it looks like it is an all inclusive tariff.
