May I repost my message from the previous (closed) topic? Would be grateful for any comments.

I've found an interesting recommendation in one of the old threads - restaurant in Passo dei Pecorai.
https://www.cdaomero.com/eng/restaurant.php

Can anyone confirm if it's worth it? We will only be able to be there for lunch. Or should we choose any other place near Grevi in Chianti?

And regarding Firenze - we're planning to have a dinner in the Mercato and another lunch at Sergio Gozzi. Unfortunately that's the only 2 days we'll be in Firenze this time, are we ok with the choices or should we change something?

Thanks in advance

These are great plans. Lunch at Sergio Gozzi is the meal I most look forward to when planning my trip. The place is absolutely on the tourist radar now, though, so you really should arrive when they open so that you don't have to wait too long. I used to also try 30 mins before posted closing (they seat up until close and the place empties out ~2 hrs later), but my more recent luck was that they weren't even taking any more names at that point.

Mercato Centrale's a great place to eat. The upstairs is a great concept and each stall is great. The only thing I'd throw out there is that if you're intent on lampredotto, the better option is on the ground floor at Da Nerbone.

A few places that sprung to mind, just to seed the thread -

Osteria Cipolla Rossa
Sergio Gozzi (only open for lunch)
Enoteca Pitti Gola e Cantina
Baldovino (I think this place feels like it should be a tourist trap, and somehow isn't)
All'Antico Vinaio (line's gonna be long at regular meal times)
La Casalinga (stick to the daily menu - the items in CAPS)
Perche No
Carapina

Thank you for your advices!
We're in Venice now and will move to Firenze tomorrow.

For a quick sandwich and drinks, I love I Fratellini. It's a little stall which has been in business since 1875.

There is often a line but as far as I saw not of Americans;) Seems to be very popular by locals.

In 2014 (so not fresh) I enjoyed "Touch". Great food and very reasonable prices. Not sure how it is today.

I like that place too. It's a solid alternative when you want a sandwich and the line at All'antico Vinaio is too long, or you want a sandwich on a roll vs schiacciata.

I definitely want to try this place after seeing the pic. We don't eat a lot of pizza in Florence, but every once in a while we'd stop off at Toto. This looks better!

Near Greve: La Castellana & di Lamoli.
Have eaten at both 4-5 times and plan to again in Sept.

Gorgeous pizza in Florence: Fuoco Matto.

Also, a great restaurant (we went twice, it was *that* good) : Taverna del Bronzino

and dinner turned out to be a highlight of our Firenze visit - Osteria di Pastella on via de la Scala not far from SMN train station. Excellent food and service, moderate prices

All'Antico Vinaio coming to Los Angeles for a few days as a "pop-up"

To those in the Los Angeles area who love the sandwiches at this iconic restaurant, here is the information:
"All’Antico Vinaio, the Florence restaurant is popping up at Mozza2Go from October 21 through October 27, doing lunch hours only from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (or until sellout). The menu will include several prosciutto options, a porchetta and ‘nduja cream sandwich, and a classic caprese, among others, with bread baked on-site by the Mozza team."
I am going to try and go and will report back. The location is in Hollywood.

Can anyone recommend somewhere for bistecca alla Fiorentina? My previous favourite place appears to have been a victim of the Pandemica…

What was your previous favorite, out of curiosity?

Osteria dell'Enoteca is probably my choice right now if I were going. Trattoria dall'Oste is supposed to be good - they have a few more locations since I last checked, used to just be one.

Trattoria del Carmine was solid when I visited last, including a pasta dish for the kids

Updated recommendations for "Michelin dinning experience"

Wife and I will visit Florence in March and would like current recommendations for a really superb gourmet experience.
Would prefer something "regional cuisine". We are not vegans and for this dinner price may not be an object.
Thanks for the help

JMN57 Sep 17, 2024 5:53 pm

Gourmet and "regional" are sometimes hard to combine. Why? A lot of the "gourmet" restaurants are modern/creative which may use regional cuisine as a starting point. In our town in Tuscany, we have a classic trattoria across the street from us (run by a husband & wife - we even helped them build a website) with a very high level of cuisine but I wouldn't call it gourmet - it is great regional cuisine. 8 miles away there is another restaurant I would call gourmet, it's run by a brother & sister and he is a classically trained chef. They serve very creative food that is local in ingredients and inspired by local dishes but the locals would not call it regional cuisine (nor would I). I happily eat at both.

So my question would be would you lean more gourmet or more classic/regional?

Michelin is a great resource.

I ate 2021 at Gucci Osteria (1 star - good and quite fancy) as well as Enoteca Pinchiorri (very nice 3 star). If you want something really special take Enoteca. Where do you stay?

Hotel has not been finalized. Any personal suggestions [ I know there is a hotel forum]

JerseyJoe Sep 20, 2024 11:24 am

For this trip I think we'd like to try classic/regional. "High level cuisine" sounds perfect -- Michelin star not required

Del Fagioli - bistecca alla fiorentina
Osteria Cinghiale Bianco, if you are looking wild boar
Trattoria Cammillo

are all places that have been reliably good in my experience.

PWMTrav Sep 20, 2024 5:51 pm

Del Fagioli is one of my favorites. I never got bistecca there, though. Maybe next time.

Two specifically for bistecca alla fiorentina that I really like are osteria dell'enoteca and trattoria mario. Not to be confused with buca mario, which is kind of a tourist trap, except that it's actually good - its just overpriced and really busy.
For traditional/classics - trattoria sergio gozzi. Go early or you're not eating there that day. Open only for lunch. La casalinga is also great if you prefer to be in oltrarno, and is also open for dinner, but I'd still call/email for a reservation the day before or the morning of - you can walk in, but you'll often wait.

Il Barretto, Via del Parione, 50, 50123 Firenze FI, Italy was excellent . Small, intimate restaurant with a very gracious on site owner and excellent food.

We quite like Le Mossacce in the via del Proconsolo.
