Italian Study Visa Processing time in NY w/ Canadian Passport
Does anyone have experience or know someone who had to obtain a study visa from the Italian Consulate in New York? The website says it can take up to 15 days but I emailed them and they said I should receive it well before but I'm still worried.
I'm scheduled to go to the embassy on Nov 28th but I need to fly out on Dec 15 to Canada and then to Asia on Dec 23 then to Italy on Jan 8 so I have to have it processed in the US and they don't seem to have any other open slots or an expedited service. Basically, the school said we needed to schedule our appointments in the end of Nov as the documents won't be ready yet and then they later basically said we can schedule it first week of Nov now and of course, all the spots are filled.
I also signed up for another appointment earlier but for a 'visa' instead of 'study visa' on their portal online; do you think the officer will still allow it to be processed if I show up to that one instead?
Thanks

Not a help sadly, but I can say, the Italian Consulate in Houston has normally returned them in about ~7 days; over the last six months I have had two of the students I used to work with via Big Brothers/BIg Sisters go and get them in 8 and 7 days. NYC might be busier. One student from Kansas was at the Houston Consulate getting next day service having flown in the night before.
Being an Italian citizen and dealing with the bureaucracy often, I will just say stay on top of it and good luck.

When you say 7 days, do you mean 7 days or 7 business days.
Even though they say there's no expedited option online, do you think they will offer such a service in requested in person?
Also, I booked a second appointment only that is earlier but it's under the category of 'visa' instead of 'study visa'; do you think the agents at the consulate will be able to process me if I go then?

7 calendar days. It is possible, I presume to expedite in person. As with all things Italian, go in person, plead your case very nicely and see what they can do. I am sure the visa reason would not matter if you claim polite ignorance. It is not much help, but it often depends on the person you are dealing with too. "Rules" are not our big Italian strong.
