Business Trip to Milan
 

I'll be in Milan for business in late April for a couple of days. I haven't been there since I was a poor student. I'm looking for the following advice...

- a couple of restaurants / bars to entertain American clients I'll be traveling with
- I remember there being discount shops for high end men's goods / clothes. Still exist? Any recommendations?
- I know Milan isn't the quintessential Italian city, but any favorite experiences if I have 1/2 day off? doesn't have to be museum or church (though ok if it is), can be coffee shop, street to walk on, a park, etc.

For restaurants you have to be a bit more specific (price/style).

There are some pop up close out places around the city center that seem to come and go and offer highly discounted stuff but it's a bit more disorder than I can take. Sales are officially twice a year and so unless you're there in January or June it can be tough. There is a near-ish outlet in Serravalle that I have not been to that you could check out.

Walking around in the fashion area (Quadrilateral, Via Montenapoleone etc., see here: http://www.italia.it/en/travel-ideas...ella-moda.html) is an experience as are the Galleria and the Duomo.

The Castello Sforzesco has interesting museums inside an amazing structure.

I like the Naviglia Grande district of Milan. It's a canal area with lots of interesting waterside bars serving aperitivi. Milan is one of the best restaurant cities in all of Italy. There's a lot of information about where to eat in this forum. It's hard to give you a specific restaurant for a hug, congested city, we don't know if you want a formal dinner, what neighborhood you'll be in, etc. There is a lot of information in this thread.

OP here. Heading to Milan next week so finally got around to nailing down logistics. Staying at Park Hyatt, working near Porta Venezia and Peru metro stations. Again any recommendations on restos, cafe, shops, experiences are extremely appreciated.

Any interest in seeing "Last Supper"? (assuming you can book tickets)

hey guys!
My friend and I are going to Milan next week and would like some advice about what to do/ where to go! Any special events happening? I personally would like to visit museums especially if there is a modern art one. My mate would like some cultural experience, find out what makes Italy/ Milans tick!

Next week will be very quiet in Milan as half the city or more will have left for the beach, mountains or lakes, so expect to find a lot of restaurants, bars and shops closed for the summer break. Next Tuesday (15th) is a national holiday, so you'll be unlikely to find many shops open that day.

What about week of August 21st? Looks .... there is not much going on either. Will any museums be open? Pinacoteca?

Museums should mostly be open (see the hours for the Brera, here: http://pinacotecabrera.org/en/visit/hours/ ). Among the many things to see are the city center (Duomo, Galleria VE, Fashion "Quadrilateral") the various big museums (e.g., Brera and Castello Sforzesco) and some of the house museums (I have enjoyed greatly Poldi-Pezzoli, Bagatti Valsecchi and Necchi Campiglio, more here: https://casemuseo.it/en/ ).

Not sure how many restaurants will be open in midAugust but there should be some worth visiting. Plus various churches and other stuff you may be interested in (e.g., museums dedicated to Leonardo or twentieth century art [Novecento in Italian] or many others).

Is there canal cruise in Milan? I guess there won't be any soccer matches yet. Alghough, England starts this weekend.

You can also do a day trip to the Lakes (Como, Maggiore). For Como, take the train to Varenna. If you are inclined, you can take the ferry from Varenna to Como and catch the train from Como back to Milan.

Lake Maggiore has ferry's to Isola Bella and Isola dei Pescatori from Stresa.

I bought tikets on Trenord to go from Milano Centrale to Lecco and then ferry to Bellagio. It's call Discovery Train. To bad weekend when I'm going to in Milan both team are playing away from San Siro
