Selfie sticks, glass bottles and food trucks have all been outlawed in Milan

Selfie sticks, glass bottles and food trucks have all been outlawed by authorities in Milan.

The Town Hall’s ban came into effect on Friday 14 July, and is aimed at curbing littering and anti-social behaviour, reports The Local.

Tourists and locals alike are prohibited from "holding, carrying, leaving on the ground, disposing of, or receiving any kind of glass bottles or containers, cans, and selfie sticks" in the area between Piazza XXIV Maggio, Gorizia Avenue, Via Codara, Cantore Square and Gabriele D'Annunzio Avenue. Firecrackers and fireworks have also been outlawed.

Interesting move by Milan authorities, now only time will tell how these measures influence visitor numbers to the city.

Cheers & Safe Travels. ^

This is really a great thing. Too many people go to Italy without seemingly realizing that it's a place where people live. It's not a theme park. The article mentioned that Rome has banned outdoor drinking after 10PM. This is an effort to reduce rowdiness. Interestingly, the Mayor issued the ruling and it includes all of Rome, even Ostia. She exempted only one neighborhood; Ottavia. Ottavia is the neighborhood where she lives.

The fact that she left only her own neighborhood exempt led to an immediate protest movement. Saturday night over 4,000 Romans took to the streets, six packs of beer in hand, and marched to her apartment where they stayed up most of the night drinking outside of her window shouting things such as, "Why is it only legal here!"

Great news. Can't wait to see first photos of people being hosed off church steps!

not sure where it was in Trastevere perhaps along Vicolo de' Cinque but early morning, perhaps sunday monring, going to visit the Basilica it was absurd to walk through all the smashed glass that was left from the night before being picked up by the local workers.

Just a note that the ban is not in the center of the city (Duomo etc.) but in the Navigli area, a place where younger people go to drink and party.
