Michelin Guide Milan

So i am planning to spend ten days in Milan window shopping and relaxing. I intend to enjoy Milan's famous aperitivo. I got the latest Michelin guide and I am marking various restos I might try.

I have very limited knowledge of the Michelin's guide reliability for restaurants. I assume that at the highest levels they are the standard (for example Cracco). But in New York City, a city I know extremely well, ethnic restaurants (for example) described in guides were usually second tier. How about Michelin and Milan? Useful?

So far, the Guide Michelin France hasn't failed me yet. The Italian edition, I had a few years ago, was pretty good as well.

If you're looking at top-notch places with local cuisine to eat, the Michelin Guide will do the trick. Personally, I prefer the Bib gourmand and Assiette Michelin selections that usually feature very good, but more down to earth restaurants, than the Michelin starred restaurants.

Milan is one of the best places for food in Italy. I don't know if you speak Italian. If you don't, you can cut and paste sections of this into Google Translate. Everything you need to know about Michelin stars in Italy. For fun on the side I'm a senior Italian translator for Google translate, and would be the first to tell you that it's not that accurate, but it's accurate enough for someone to be able to read this.

Earlier this week we stayed 2 nights at the Park Hyatt in Milan. Restaurant was closed when we arrived but we were told it was the same Michilen starred chef for the bar menu. We loved it and ate in bar area both nights.

Michelin is pretty reliable in Italy, in my experience. I don't necessarily even go for the starred places - if it makes the guide in some form (even just a mention) it's been good. I've gone back and compared the most recent against a few cities where I know enough to get around and eat well, and there was plenty of overlap between my favorites and the guide. So worst case, I like the same places they do.
