hours and hours in Malpensa
Hi all...we're arriving at Malpensa at 8am (Jan 29, 2013) and have to wait until about 4pm for our Easyjet flight to Palermo...any suggestions as to where to wait in the airport ? Is it worth it to leave the airport knowing that we'll be pretty jet-lagged ?
Any recommendations are appreciated...thought someone might know of a quiet corner there...thanks !

See if you can get a day rate at the new Sheraton attached to the airport. The club lounge would provide adequate free liquor, but food was skimpy and poor when I was there 6 months ago. There is also a nice bar/restaurant in the hotel you could just hang out in, and the spa probably is available to non-guests. They both are pricey though. It's a pretty spiffy hotel just to check out.

Hang in the lobby or the lounge area outside the conference center (out of sight of the front desk). All they can do is ask you to leave.

How sad to contemplate hanging out in a hotel lobby with the risk of being asked to leave.
1) Take the Malpensa Express to Milano Nord Cadorna station. The station is only a few minutes' walk (underground) from T1 arrivals (and you can even purchase tickets in the baggage hall if you wish).
2) Book tickets for the 11:00 viewing of Leonardo da Vinci's 'The Last Supper' – only a 10-12 minute walk from the station. There's availability at present, but it tends to sell out quickly. Here's the official site: http://www.vivaticket.it/index.php?nvpg[home]&op=cenacoloVinciano&change_language=1
3) Have a 'real' Italian lunch.
4) Take the Malpensa Express back to the airport in good time for your flight.
NB easyjet flies out of Terminal 2 – so in any case you'll have to make your way over there.
NB Milan can get ver cold and foggy in the winter – so bring a coat.

you probably have enough time to rent a car, go to wine country, and have lunch. Ghemme and Gattineria are less than 40km of the airport and down some expressway.. both are tiny places, , and very inexpensive. do not wander at night. the fog at night is terrible.

Just checked, and there are 5 tickets left for the 11am viewing...think we'll try this...we've been in/out of Milan several times, but only to rent or drop off a car...I think seeing the Last Supper is a better use of time than napping ! Does anyone know if we can check our luggage with Easyjet in the a.m., or will we have to wait until 2 hours before the scheduled flight ? Thx !
It would not be a good idea to try to check-in for the easyJet flight in the morning (and I don't even know if it would be possible): Presumably you will be arriving at Terminal 1 (?) and as easyJet operates out of Terminal 2 you would have the time wasting hassle of schlepping over to T2 and then back to T1 to take the Malpensa Express into Milan.
However, the Malpensa Website claims that there is a 'left luggage' ("Deposito Bagagli") in T1 arrivals zone B (which would be very handy indeed). The charge is apparently 4 per item and it's open all day. I've never used this service and am not 100% sure that it's operational but I will be passing through Malpensa in a few weeks' time and can check; so unless any other 'FTer' confirms or otherwise in the meantime, I'll post an update later in the month.
You will have to factor in the time to collect the luggage on your return and then take the shuttle over to T2.
Have a great time!

Hi homegirlchris I think you're making a good choice visiting 'Il Cenacolo'!

The deposito baggaglio (left luggage) is indeed operational (at least when I was there last month) and should be toward your right as you exit from picking up your luggage and going through customs. Make sure you have enough time on the way back to get to Terminal 1, pick up luggage and then get to the Terminal where Easy Jet is.

From the 'deposito bagagli' take the elevator or escalator down to level -1. The station is a two minute walk via a sort of art installation.
The trains to Milano Nord Cadorna leave every 30 minutes at :03 and :26 minutes past the hour. The journey takes between 30-35 minutes depending on the number of stops.
'The Last Supper' ('Il Cenacolo Vinciano') is situated adjacent to Santa Maria delle Grazie. It is opposite 65 Corso Magenta and is about a 10 minute walk from Milano Nord Cadorna station. After exiting the station go diagonally right across the square and down via Carducci. After about 3 minutes turn right onto Corso Magenta.
I'd recommend taking the 12:58 Malpensa Express back to the airport. (You'd probably be perfectly ok taking the 13:28 if you don't make the earlier one, but taking the 13:58 really would be cutting it fine!)
The free shuttle to Terminal 2 takes around 10 minutes, and leaves every 20 minutes from just outside the station. (You'd obviously have to factor-in a good 10 minutes or so to collect your luggage and walk back to the shuttle bus stop.)
PS If you happen to have time for lunch there are plenty of decent eateries in the Corso Magenta area. I recently ate at 'Osteria al 29' situated at 29 Corso Magenta (very near to the junction with Via Carducci). It's possibly not the most elegant restaurant in Milan, but I ate there recently (as I too had time to kill and didn't want to hang around in Malpensa for hours and hours on end ...) and it was very good indeed and very reasonably priced for the area.
