Venice to London after a Cruise

I posted this in the UK forum, but think this question is probably better suited for here. We waited too long to book our flight from Venice to London after our cruise. Now, the only thing reasonable is Ryanair. (they fly from VCE starting June 1) Someone suggested the train to Verona and then fly to London. Below is what I've come up with. We would greatly appreciate your thoughts as we feel we better get this booked soon. Thanks!

Ok, I finally had a little time to do some additional research today. Flying Ryanair from VCE to STN is slightly higher than taking the train to Verona and flying Easyjet VRN to LGW.
The ship says we should be able to get off in the 1st group which will be close to 7:00AM. The Ryanair flight from VCE is at 9:50AM. Is this even possible??? ( Could splurge on a cab to the airport)
Here's the rub: arrival in London from VCE is 10:55AM vs arrival from VRN at 5:45PM That would give us almost another 1/2 day in London.

Just found this:
Taxi rate from Venice cruise terminal to airport in a Venice land taxi will cost you €30 - €40. Depending on traffic it can take from 20-30 minutes.

If this is accurate, we should be able to make a 9:50AM flight, right??? (based on getting to the taxi by 8:00AM)

You'll be cutting it close, getting off the ship will take some time and I presume you'll have a lot of luggage [usually the case for cruise pax] but you should be able to make it. However, you mention the Ryanair flight from VCE - you do specifically mean Venezia/Marco POlo airport, correct? Ryanair's Venice flights usually leave from Treviso so presumably this is a new service? If not, and they are simply going to bus you to Treviso, then you'll have problems.

Also, again if you have a lot of luggage, be prepared to pay a fortune to have it travel w/you on Ryan Air.

Don't put your luggage out the last night of the cruise. Take it off in the morning yourselves. (love wheeled luggage!) It will save some time. If you're on a big ship, the elevators may be packed in the morning. Call for the lift to go up (may be empty) and then ride it up, then back down.

Book your airport transfer before you go. These folks are dependable. I use them all the time. [email protected]

Thanks to all for your posts. It appears as long as we can be off the ship by 8:00Am, with a 20 to 30 min ride to VCE, we should be able to make the 9:50AM flight. ^

Is Ryanair REALLY so much less expensive to warrent it? You only have 15 Kg of luggage per person.... then you might have to pay extra for the check in since you might not be able to do it online via the ship etc.

Have you really checked all other alternatives even via other EU hubs??

Yes, we have. We came to the conclusion it makes more sense to take the train to Verona and then fly Easyjet to LGW. We felt much more comfortable with Easyjet's policies for both checked and carryon luggage. We have booked the air portion and now only have to decide whether to purchase the train tics ahead of time, or the day we travel.
