I am taking my mum OS in November 2011 and am planning on spending 2 nights in Florence. After much research I have decided on the Santa Maria Novella Hotel. - we did not want a 'generic I could be anywhere in the world' hotel. I am looking at the 'Superior Room with a View' which is just within my budget at 165 euros. I could upgrade to the Suite but am wondering whether it is worth the extra $$$ and going over my budget. I am also concerned about the noise factor as I am a light sleeper.
I would love to hear from anyone who has.stayed at this hotel recently.
Other accommodation suggestions are also welcome.
Thanks,

In Florence the lady and I always stayed at the Soggiorno Battistero B&B (link below) in Piazza San Giovanni. You can't beat the location and the American woman (Kelly) and her Italian husband that run it are great. It's very straightforward, nothing extravagent, but very clean and great service. Ask for breakfast in the morning and they'll bring in some juice, coffee, croissant, etc. I'd also ask for a room that's window opens up onto the Piazza with a great view of the Baptistry and the Duomo. If you're there on a Friday or Saturday night expect a little bit of noise but, then a again, is there anywhere in Italy you can stay (any time of the week for that matter) in which you don't here noise from the locals at all times of the night??

Florence
We are going to Italy in May with three nights in Florence at the Hilton. Anyone out there stayed there ? It's suppose to be just 2.5 clicks from center of Florence.
Spent one day there last year on cruise and wanted to see more.
Thanks for any replies

The thread I referred you to previously has posts and reviews as recent as a few months ago.

We have stayed here quite a few times. Nice, clean apartments with A/C. Perfect location on San Lorenzo, one block from the Duomo.
No elevator. Some apartments are high. We now choose the Conti apt, because it is the lowest.

It appears that this property is located in a more residential area, smaller room,s light on the lounge extra's. A reasonable breakfast buffet, eggs I hope.
So one hopes for a good upgrade ( I am a Diamond), take the shuttle downtown and cab back maybe the best bet.
I am there in May and will write back on my stay. Thanks to all that replied.
