SIMM and calling card recommendation

We will be in Italy arriving in Rome. Any suggestion for a prepaid SIMM for making local calls? Also any recommendations for a calling card to use for calling US? We will be traveling in Rome, Umbria, Venice and Cinque Terre area.
Thanks, Kestas

You can check out cellhire.com. They rent SIMM cards and handsets for international use all over the world. I am using them for the first time next week so I can't give feedback just yet but it seems to be a good option for international travel. I did not know they existed until I was referred to them by my employer (will be travelling on business).

If you own an unlocked tri- or quad-band mobile, get a TIM sim card. Great for cheap local calls and ok for international. Available at most news stands, tabacs and TIM stores. Also easy to recharge.

Can I get one at the Rome airport? Thanks!
