Help!! Another Italy Train Question

Help!! (Another Italy Train question)

Hey everyone

I am traveling to Rome tomorrow. When I land in FCO, I have been instructed (by the person I am going to meet) to purchase a train ticket. Then he mentions something about "validating the ticket". What does this mean? Also, if anyone can "walk me through" the process of how to get from the terminal to wherever the train departs, where to buy the ticket, I would be SOOO thankful! I cannot get ahold of my friend.

Thanks!

FTer RinR has an awesome blog and his page "The Train Station at FCO" should answer all your questions and give you all the info needed..

Validating your ticket

Lastly, here's another page from Slowtravel on trains. Scroll down until you see "How to Validate your Ticket"

Great, thanks. How much do I need to worry about pick pocket-ers while walking in a station?

Last, will I get to keep my luggage with me on the train?

As much as in any major European city. Just stay alert.

The issue re: keeping the luggage w/you: depends on the size of your suitcase. If it is a large bag then it won't fit above the seat so you'll have to leave it in the baggage area at the end of the car so it will be "with you" (as opposed to checked" but it may not be near you. If you just have a rollaboard it won't be a problem.
