Wine Tours

A group of us winos are planning a trip to Italy to partake in some of the local grape juice. Any suggestions of which areas offer the best values along with the best wines? We like Piedmont wines as well as Tuscany wines. Tours or on our own? Keep in mind we all are first timers doing this. Thanks for any input.

sounds to me like you really want to drive up rt 100 in california.

things are a bit different in italy. you can drive around chianti classico region and stop at all the places that have "wine tasting" signs out front. many/most charge a couple euro for the tasting.

never found much available in piedmont, but maybe was in the wrong part.

montalcino was completely closed, but the town was great.

Poggio Antica in Montalcino is available for visits daily from 10a-6p (ask for Joyce). They appreciate if you book in advance but it is not necessary. Tours are free, but there is charge for tastings. They make a wonderful Brunello and there is a great restaurant onsite.

What if you're not plannng to rent a car? Are there wine tours available in the Rome or Florence areas? Any idea of costs and itineraries? Thanks in advance
