ITA left my checked luggage at SFO
Post is largely self-explanatory.
Flew MAD-LAX via FCO and SFO at the last minute as I was starting a new job. This was my first time flying ITA; in fact, the last time I flew AZ they were still Alitalia back in 2012. On my way back to MAD DL refused to check my bag through since my layover was over six hours, so I left the suitcase at SFO (they have a great if overpriced left luggage facility) while I toured around the city.
When I returned to SFO I picked up my suitcase and brought it to the ITA counters to check it in. The bag was tagged all the way to MAD and I checked in with around 80 minutes left to spare, so not rushing by any measure. The flights were great if uneventful, and when I returned home I noticed my suitcase didn't arrive. When I checked where it was since there's an AirTag inside, it said it was at SFO.
Anyone have any experiences with ITA mishandling luggage? My worry is that ITA won't get my suitcase to MAD in time before I have to fly back to the U.S. next week, especially as their next SFO-FCO flight isn't until Wednesday. They don't have a dedicated baggage hotline and expect me to write them an e-mail. Am I overthinking this?
