2020 Annual Devaluation Speculation

Has the 2020 devaluation happened yet? Haven't seen any announcement but at the rate they've been going I wouldn't be surprised to see point requirements double at most properties overnight with no announcement. Everything I've been eyeing hasn't changed so far though.

It has not happened yet. And with what is going on in China, it won't happen at the beginning of this year.

Marriott just announced its devaluation. But I think more to come later this year as currently the forecast for economic growth is not very rosy.

I expect IHG to put devaluation on hold until Q3 to Q4.

IHG increasingly devalues quietly (e.g., there were some unannounced changes in July of last year).

Added "Speculation" to the thread title to more accurately reflect what's being discussed.

Whatever recategorisation is planned will take place, Coronavirus or not. If it turns into a worldwide epidemic expect other targeted reactions...

Coronavirus is irrelevant for continued devaluation of award pricing. IHG is certainly not going to wait much longer before announcing their list.

If the world economy / travel is substantially impacted, there will simply be better promotions later in the year to attract paid business. People not spending points on holidays is not going to be an issue at all for IHG.
