These packages have been available for the past month, not exactly a jaw-dropping deal in my opinion. But at least they don't count toward the IHG annual limit of points purchased.

Aah, if only you could turn your points into cash at these rates ... a million points worth $5800.

But let's say you did buy a million points for $5800. Forgetting anomalies such as point breakes, etc, is this a good deal for a regular hotel?

A million points would give you 14 nights at a 70,000 IC hotel, or $414/night -- for some hotels, a bargain but remember a paid rate would a) earn points+bonuses for the stay, b) earn credit card points, c) earn ebates or other referral points, d) would give you better upgrades, etc., e) earn you/requalify you for status.

So, not exactly the bargain of the century. It makes sense if you don't need to qualify/requalify (you either have no chance being a once-a-year stayer, or you stay 100+ paid nights), and if the target property is $600/night or higher. Assuming you can find the free nights.

And IHG occasionally runs sales that result in an even lower per-point cost than the Daily Getaways deals. That's why those deals are still available.
