Reel Summer Stay 4 and earn 5000

I just got this email from IHG, and when I click on the link to register for it; I get an error message saying The code you entered is invalid for your membership. Please check the qualification requirements for your country, region or program.

It seems odd that IHG would send me an email for a promo that I'm ineligible for.

Here's the email:

Stay 4 nights and earn 5000 bonus points
At any of IHG’s 4700 properties worldwide

Dear awaflyboy,

As one of our most valued IHG® Rewards Club members, we’d like to offer you an exclusive opportunity to continue your winning ways. All you have to do is stay 4 nights and earn 5000 bonus points . Register today and complete your stays at any of IHG’s 4700 properties worldwide between May 15 and September 2, 2014, to take full advantage of your offer. It’s one more way we like to reward our loyal members.

I got the same email, except my offer was 10,000 points for 12 nights. I also got the error. This is not the first time I've gotten an email offering a promo but upon registration, it saying I'm not eligible. I sent an email off to IHG calling them out for this a second time.

The last time, they claimed the offer had expired a week before I get the email. I wasn't happy to hear that and they wouldn't cough up points or status for it. They better do something this time, or I'll stop staying at IHG whenever possible.

IHG is aware there was a problem on Thursday, May 1, with some IHG(R) Rewards Club members being unable to register for recent promotions due to a technical glitch.

The problem has been resolved. We apologize for any inconvenience, please try to register again.

Thank You,
Kevin

I got a Stay 4, get 5,000 offer. Being in Australia, it wasn't called Reel in Summer though. It registered ok, but no confirmation email came, and it hasn't shown up in my offers page as yet.

Same here... I got the email Friday and I registered right away since I checked in couple of hrs after. So I hope my stay counted.

EDIT: I reread the email and the promo starts May 15 till Sept 2nd.

10K for 7 nights. I have 6 nights scheduled, don't know if I can squeeze in 1 more. Also don't know if 10K points is worth it.

What, you folks in Australia don't have summer? Is it called something else in your language?

()

But seriously, I got the Stay 4/Get 5000 offer and felt unimpressed. It works out to a bonus of 1,250 per night-- which is roughly equal to having a "Double base points" promotion at my average nightly rate. A couple years ago I wouldn't have sneered at that offer. I suppose my bonus expectation has changed considerably as a result of the Big Win promotions.
