Will IHG follow suit? - Decline Housekeeping for points
SPG, HHonors, and Marriott all offer this:
Decline Housekeeping for Starpoints - a way to help go green Decline Housekeeping Service & Receive 500 Hilton Hhonors Bonus Points Per Day! Where is Marriott? - SPG offering points to decline maid service Will IHG follow suit? |
I can just imagine people on long stays with absolutely filthy rooms clocking up the points :D
|
This would be fine as long as you can pick and choose when to implement.
A long stay may require housekeeping once or twice a week. |
I sure hope they follow suit. On most week long stays I would only need my room cleaned maybe once. Plus it would save the company money in cleaning costs.
|
If they did follow suit, it won't be long before we see a thread titled "Stayed 30 days at an IC and declined housekeeping but still received only 2000 points ".

Can't imagine many RA's turning down housekeeping - otherwise who is going to refill minibar!

I wouldn't mind an option for housekeeping every third or fourth day. Every day is certainly excessive.
|
I just stayed in the San Antonio Crown Plaza. They let you decline housekeeping for 500 points/night. You could choose the nights you wanted points individually.
|
Hmm... 500 points per night certainly sounds tempting, but one of the things I like most about staying in a hotel is that the room is clean and you get fresh towels daily. For long stays perhaps I can skip a couple of days for housekeeping but for weekend stays I don't think 500pts is worth it. ;)
|
500 points certainly wouldn't do it for me.
I also worry about infrequent room cleaning. A good housekeeping manager has staff focus on different things each day; in the long-run, having fewer housekeeping visits could reduce room cleanliness and upkeep. Of course, if they are extra-thorough on turnover, that could be okay. |
I quite often refuse housekeeping, when they arrive, I just ask for fresh towels and toiletries
|
Long stay no.....short stay, like a two-day stay yes. Pretty easy choice for me. But like the other posters here, if I said no, I'd like to be able to pick and choose how often.

This has already been discussed on the Chase PC Rewards forum, so the idea has been floated at least I would imagine.

Looking at properties in the Austin area, and one of the HIX's has a "Go Green Don't Clean" rate. Same as BFR, except you get $5 off or 1000 bonus points. It doesn't say "per night" but I sure hope it would be!
