Platinum Elite benefits
Hello.
I am a bit confused. I booked 2 nights at IC Bangkok - first night using the Free Night Award (2 single beds deluxe room), second night using cash (2 queen beds deluxe room). I contacted IC Bangkok to confirm the Plat benefits, but was told that since I am using the free night award, room upgrade is inapplicable. Therefore, I am not eligible for the complimentary breakfast (Executive benefits) - they provided me with the t&c #3 below. Is the complimentary breakfast part of the upgrade benefits, or is it a benefit for Platinum Elite members?
I wanted to add that a couple of years ago, I had stayed at this hotel before, using the Free Night Award and have received the complimentary breakfast listed in the letter (Executive benefits).
3. Platinum Elite and Spire Elite Members will be offered a complimentary upgrade, as determined by the hotel, which might include rooms on higher floors, corner rooms, newly renovated rooms, or rooms with preferred views. The upgrade will be offered at time of check-in, subject to and based on availability, and will only apply to the Member's personal guest room. The hotel is not required to upgrade Members to suites or specialty rooms. Upgrade benefits will not apply to rooms booked as a Reward Night reservation, or to Holiday Inn Express hotels in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. Upgrade benefits may not be available at InterContinental Residences.

I was offered club access for THB 3,200 as well (it was THB 1,500 a couple years ago - must be a high season / inflation). But since we will be arriving late, we won't be able to partake the club offerings, and our priority is breakfast only. I noticed in the booking page that to add breakfast to each room (both Grande Deluxe and Executive Deluxe) per night would cost only USD 17. So, for us, the THB 3,200 is excessive.
My confusion lies in whether being a Plat allows you to the access to the Executive benefits, or do you have to be upgraded first in order to be eligible for the benefits, i.e. complimentary breakfast? The room size for Grande Deluxe and Executive Deluxe are the same and both have the option of adding breakfast for USD 17 - the only difference that I could think of is maybe the Executive rooms are in higher floors.

The SGS is also worth considering, even if you don't get much of an upgrade the rooms are large and the "club offering" is good, and again the pool is much better.

This isn't a guaranteed solution to getting an upgraded room for both nights but has been known to work.

Further IC BKK on Dlx Room Paid Nights upgrades both Plat/Spire (non-Ambassador's) elites, which is fantastic benny as foc b/f is not an IHG benny at hotels (HI, CP, Indigo etc).
Since you booked Dlx on as award night, no Plat elite upgrade to an Exec Room is given, thus no foc restaurant brekkie either

The IC Bangkok , for an IC is probably unique regards that breakfast benefit. Basically coz entry(deluxe)/Exec/Club rooms are identical (size/furnishing) IC BKK differentiates using the "soft" benefits. With Exec Room guest gets choice of either i)restaurant b/f ii)evening drinks , plus a few other less worthwhile bennies

Basically there is no formal entitlement for anyone to be able to upsell any booking, or a fixed price to do so. It fluctuates depending on occupancy of club and other factors. But, as I said this is an hotel that definitely likes to please guests, so you “may” be offered a solution that fits your needs perfectly upon arrival, subject to availability. No guarantees on that though with a pure award booking. On paid nights, a one category upgrade is automatic and guaranteed for all Ambassadors.

That’s seldom an issue here in BKK, because the rooms are actually not differentiated. Any room can be sold at the Deluxe, Executive, or Club trim level. So, it’s unlikely to ever be denied. Even if it were, hypothetically speaking, the compensation offered more or less does offset any inconvenience. The $50 easily covers breakfast, etc...

New room catagory discovered - searched for a stay 2020 september.
New room type
"club intercontinental suite "
i believe the picture is the sitting room of the corner suite, even the description lists the same sq2
Shouldn't the phrase be " club corner suite " , unlike a new suite catagory
and almost all suites sold out
