The area in front of the art museum or science centre (or whatever it is) is closed for 2 years?

Walk round to the star ferry port then, or the other other way toward t-s-t east. Or just go wandering, that's what I do.

2. For IHG, you do only receive benefits on qualified nights. Since yours is an award night, it is not eligible for benefits.

At times, properties might, if you are lucky, provide you benefits even though you have an award night however this is rare, and extremely rare for this property (IC HK) in particular.
I'm Spire and they tried to charge me HKD800+10% for just HV (not club). On NYE they charged HKD3000+10%.

Maybe these are specially high rates for holiday season?

I've read back a few pages here, but I'm hoping for a more recent datapoint... I'm planning a trip with a good friend who's a Royal Ambassador. If we end up staying here on my Chase free night cert, will his RA benefits be honored? I'm most interested in getting a decent view and club access, less so the 2 category upgrade.

Thx,
-CLG

I would assume not. They are very stingy about giving any freebies away when they don't need to. Maybe if you put the reservation in your friend's name?

My data point is from August. On a two-night stay, first of which was booked with someone else's points, and second with mine (I'm an RA), the treatment blew my mind - upgrade, club, etc. for both nights.

But I would expect you MUST have at least one night booked under the RAs name, otherwise I see no reason for them to.

Just an FYI post: I used my Chase free night cert for a 1 night stay on Nov. 10th. I am Spire. I had emailed the hotel ahead of time requesting any benefits they could extend, but hopefully a nice view. At check in I was told I had been given a harbor view room - awesome. It ended up being a perfectly centrally located view going for $550/night.

We were each given a welcome drink coupon. We were offered 30% off club access but on a one night stay where we already had plans for the evening we declined.

As others have noted, the property feels a little isolated and the construction was evident, but not intrusive. We just walked 10 minutes to the Star Ferry and took that to the island. The underground walk between the IC and the Hyatt Regency TST is about 10 minutes and with A/C moving walkways isn't too bad.

Yes, I would put his name & number on the rez, too. Just wanted to see if it was worth the effort to use the free night cert if we had to buy-up to Club, etc...

Thanks for the feedback!

I was just there, stayed one night free on an award redemption (Chase free night). I have Platinum Status. I was upgraded to a Superior Harbor View Room and was given two free drink coupons for the bar.

You chances will be based on many factors. How you present yourself and asking nicely for an upgrade. My original room would have been a courtyard view standard room. I asked about possible free upgrades and paid upgrades. After getting prices, the check-in desk clerk called his manager and got me approved for a free upgrade to the eventual room.

Guarantees are not something you get unless you pay. Rooms can always be sold out at a higher category.

What is the cost of buffet breakfast at Harbourside? Trying to decide whether it makes sense to buy an upgrade to the Club or just eat breakfast at Harbourside

Does anybody have a feeling for how IC Hong Kong manages yield?

I have a award backup right not, but as pricing (for November) is right now I'd rather book a cash stay and upgrade into a suite (ambassador).

However I plan to book a Virtuoso rate and I prefer not to have my TA rebook (if prices drop).

When should most likely pull the trigger?

I think I'm gonna book a 2 night cash stay at the IC for the end of March, plenty of availability right now since it's low season.

I want to get the HV room but is there a better way to do it than just booking it directly with IHG for $380/night?

Room prices: https://www.dropbox.com/s/m6w2m0lpdy...18.53.png?dl=0

1. If I bought the AMB ($200/year), this would get me a guaranteed upgrade so I could book a deluxe room for $330/night and then I'd get upgraded to an HV room right? Is that how that would/should work?

2. I saw someone mention Virtuoso. I called an agent but waiting to hear back, seems like they have a good deal going on right now for IC though: upgrade on arrival, free bfast for two, $100 food credit and club access. I'm assuming it's more expensive to book with them though than via booking directly.

Virtuoso rates on ICs are usually 10% below best-available-rate (and higher than advance purchase), but of course it's worth to double check.

And, yes for question 1.

Wow nice, so why would anyone not do the virtuoso rate?
